Ah, so love this look at Marigold growing up and learning the skills needed to do well in her world! And she got eggs out of the deal as well? Wonderful! Excellent depiction of life in that world. Author Reply: Marigold will always be on the self-conscience side, but at least she’ll be able to buy her goods for a decent price! Thanks for reading!

I loved this! I enjoyed the haggling and I liked the way Marigold got more and more sure of herself as she went along. I also liked her confusion as to why it wasn't lying. The Gaffer did a good job of standing back and allowing her to get the feel of it all. I do hope you are planning more of these stories at some point. Loved all of them! Author Reply: Well, she probably still is confused about the not lying part, but at least she’ll be more sure of herself the next time she goes to market. Gaffer’s a ‘step back and watch’ sort of parent, but he doesn’t let his children flounder about either. He gives them just enough guidance to see them on their way – which is harder to do and get right than he might think. Thanks for reading, GW! I’m sure I’ll be doing more at some point, maybe for next Father’s Day. ;)

LOLOL! Oh, I do love this! How wise of the Gaffer to realize that Marigold is going to have to learn this important skill. And I loved the butcher's complicity in her lesson! He really entered into the spirit of things. Not everyone is so obliging. I remember when my son was about eight. He used his birthday money to buy a toy, and it was defective. We went back to K-Mart to get a refund, and I sent him up to customer service to do that for himself. He had his little receipt clutched in his little hand, and went up to get waited on. The clerk at customer service just ignored him, and waited on two adults, before he was finally able to get her attention. Still, he did the transaction on his own, and got his money back. While he went off happily enough to buy another toy, I went over and gave the clerk a polite earful, reminding her that however young he was, a customer was a customer. Still, after that, he never hesitated to take care of things like that himself--and he often found himself making a return! These little stories have been delightful! I do so love your Gaffer! Author Reply: Old Nolan has seen five other Gamgee children come and learn to haggle in his shop. I think Marigold surprised them all, especially herself, with how good she actually was. And he does enjoy seeing the little ones get their footing. I doubt Gaffer would allow Marigold to learn to haggle with someone who would ignore her completely though! *shakes head at K-Mart clerk* Thanks for reading, dear!

Yay, another wonderful tale! What a marvelous Father's Day series. I should take 'haggling' lessons myself, as I would feel as tentative about it as Goldie! Author Reply: I would be hopeless at haggling. I can’t always think on my feet that quickly! Thanks for reading, dear!

Well done Marigold! I wonder where along the historical timeline we Brits lost our natural talent for haggling. I would be totally hopeless at it, with or without the Gaffer's help. Author Reply: Probably around the time they started putting up standard prices for everything. Though you can still haggle in some places, though I would never think to try it either. Marigold doesn’t have a choice though and so must learn, and she learned quite well! Thanks for reading!
