I enjoyed this very much. I liked the way you mentioned the effect Aragorn has on people and loved Ioreth here. Author Reply: Aragorn with the Elessar stone on his breast must have been rather overwhelming to face at times. But he is THE Elessar for the descendants of Numenor. As for Ioreth--she's so much fun to write! Heh!

Another lovely gapfiller, Larner! Ah, so that was how our dear Steward tried to find out more about the Lady Éowyn – asking everyone available who could know something. With Merry he found the right one, didn’t he? I loved the whole conversation. And Ioreth was so very Ioreth-ish – chatting on and on with Faramir barely saying anything. I’m impressed it was sufficient to raise a brow to stop her! *grin* Now Faramir only needs to talk to the object of his desire ;-) Author Reply: Ah, thank you, Kitty. Am so glad you enjoyed this peeping after Faramir's investigations! And I suspect Faramir knew Ioreth well enough to keep her on track with a look or two. Heh!

A marvelous, wonderful, truly hopeful story, Larner! I love Faramir's tenacity! He doggedly pursues every recourse he has to achieve his objective - ;-) LOL Ah, what love will do . . . Author Reply: Ah, yes--he is indeed a tenacious one, our beloved Faramir. And now he has enough information to realize that if he pursues the lady he is not competing against the King, and to begin to understand just why she might have come with the Riders of Rohan. Yes, indeed, what love will do, as you say! Now--I've managed to have Faramir conduct a conversation with each of the Hobbits! It's been a delightful exercise! And am so glad you enjoyed this and indeed found it hopeful! Thank you!

Heh! Faramir/Merry friendship is almost better than Faramir/Pippin friendship. And you have Ioreth spot on. *g* Author Reply: Oh, I suspect that Faramir came to respect and honor each of our four, and was glad to be able to name each one a friend. And am so glad you like the depiction of Ioreth. I suspect that she and Faramir have known one another for a long time, and he's learned over the years how to redirect her with the minimum of fuss! I rather like her, you know.

I wish you'd write up the story of Faramir visiting Rohan and meeting young Eowyn. Anyway, this story is a treat for Faramirists - you've captured Faramir's intelligence and determination and kindness. I loved the conversation with Ioreth, and Faramir's cutting short Ioreth's tangent with a twitch of his eyebrow. And his sense of dawning hope is nicely written; poor Faramir has been living on minimal to no hope for so long, he's happy with just a hope of winning Eowyn's heart - also, Faramir is a strong and confident enough man to take the chance that he can make that hope a reality. And of course, the scene with Merry happily explaining hobbit geneology with Faramir is charming. Author Reply: I may one day do just that, although I have one more short story I'm committed to at the moment and I SO need to get things moving with both Stirring Rings and the Tenant! Aargh! They're coming to me in sentences again! And I do love our beloved young Steward as much as anyone else. Competence, the gift to see the hearts of those he meets as did his father but with greater compassion, the ability to see to the heart of a difficulty, tenacity, and a joy in life itself, particularly now that the security of his realm is confirmed as much as possible. He and Ioreth would, I think, enjoy a history of sorts, and he would know well that he could get her back on track fairly easily. And to see how practical yet romantic Faramir manages with this practical but equally romantic Hobbit was a delightful challenge, and now I've written conversations with all four! And of course there would be mention of cousins--Merry is a Hobbit after all! Heh!

Lovely. I enjoyed Faramir's talk with Merry very much. I do think Faramir learned more in that conversation than he was hoping to learn. I love his interest in Eowyn and how he questions everyone about her save the lady herself! Author Reply: Tolkien himself stated that he learned more from Merry than Merry realized he'd told; that he'd learn more than he'd hoped to find out only seems possible! It will take a week or two before he truly begins questioning Eowyn herself! So glad you enjoyed it!

In this wonderful unfolding of Faramir's thoughts and discoveries, you really highlight his non-hasty and careful assessment of a situation, and the people involved in it. (And of course, I especially loved Merry enthusing about his fellow hobbits!) Author Reply: I'd think the Ents would be most appreciative of our Faramir. Heh! Yes, one to get all the facts, and to deal patiently and efficiently with even Ioreth! So glad you like it.

Ah, Faramir is learning a lot, isn't he? I am just loving this--you know that conversation of Faramir and Merry is one of my favorite gaps! And it's easy to see a firm friendship developing there. And how good that Ioreth was able to assure him that Aragorn did not return Eowyn's interest! You do Faramir's POV very well--this really calls for a follow-up! Author Reply: Oh, I'm SO glad you like it. And you'd set more plotbunnies loose here when I still haven't finished this month's challenge for the challenge site? AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHH! I'm honored! Heh!
