Eight Elven Cloaks  by Virtuella 7 Review(s)

And so he did change just as they all did. I liked their concern for Legolas and this showed how they could understand him so well even if some of the others confuse them. Since he is of their race they know what he must feel.

Poor Lindhris to love in vain!

Author Reply: Thanks, Linda. Bit of humour never comes amiss, I think.

I feel this way myself - sameness, no challenges, and longing for something else, some definition to life that is just uniquely my own. And I think very slowly I finding it. I hear also the Sea Longing that will arise in that Elf's heart in the end. I can't wait for the blessing of Frodo's cloak, though Sam's fit so well for him too and Larner is right that Frodo did share Sam's cloak - and so the blessing.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Thank you very much. The idea of sameness eating a life away is brilliantly described in Thomas Mann's "Der Zauberberg".

Ah,yes! The burden of the Elves. He will find something new to set his heart upon, new friends and a new vision. It is a good blessing for Legolas.

*applause*

I am enjoying these so much, Virtuella!

Oh my! Legolas might consider this blessing a mixed one. I had never before thought of the idea that he might find life after the Quest to be dull if he had nothing new to look forward to.

And while it might be interpreted to be the sea-longing, and might well include that, I also think of the challenges he would face in starting up a new colony of Elves in Ithilien, just when the rest of Elvenkind are fading and leaving.

I wonder if thses maidens will ever know just how their blessing played themselves out. It would be interesting to know what they thought.

Author Reply: It's meant to be a mixed blessing.
Well, there is the sea-longing and the new colony, but also his new perception of Men, Dwarves and Hobbits and the friendships he has with them. I don't think Lindhris ever saw him again, though...

Countless years he has spent in the woodland realm, with no challenge to his powers and no deeds to his name. That is why he is glad to be on this quest

That's a very perceptive and interesting idea. I continue to greatly enjoy each fascinating chapter.

Author Reply: Thanks. It wasn't easy to think fo something for Legolas.
