| It had to be traumatic, even if he were aware Bilbo was leaving and were as prepared as he could have been--which it appears, book-verse, he was. But I, too, see him finding that first night traumatic, that first night, perhaps just before--or just after--he put a certain gold Ring in his pocket. Author Reply: Book-verse, he certainly did have an idea! However, he would of course want to deny any inkling to himself because he cares about Bilbo so much. Our poor dear Frodo. Oh, yes, and that gold ring certainly would complicate matters- though of course I have absolutely *no* idea why. Not. An. Inkling. Poor Frodo! | |
