I thought I recognized this - but it was just as good the second time around!

Author Reply: I wrote this originally for a Christmas challenge a few years back, and finally dusted it off and polished it. Glad you liked it.

Very, very funny. I think I shall have to organise a branch of the League of Temperance to do a bit of canvassing around Gondor.

Author Reply: LOL (envisioning a determined gaggle of long-skirted Temperance ladies chasing after the nimble Rangers)! Thanx for the review!

Awww! That was so sweet! I can't even remember having read a story with a grown Elboron in it, ever.

Author Reply: It can't have been always easy for Elboron to have a father who was not only Prince of Ithilien and Steward of Gondor, but also a beloved Captain of the Ithilien Rangers. I'm pleased that you liked the piece, Soledad; thanks for reviewing it.

I'm glad Faramir recalls his own youth! He is a good Prince and a good father.

Author Reply: Aw, you know that Faramir would be a good dad; and an outstanding Prince. Thanx for the review, Linda.

Cute. :) And yes, as someone else said -- it's a bit different for a captain in peace-time, isn't it?

Luckily, though, Faramir seems to be a pretty easygoing sort. And luckily, Elboron's grandfather isn't around to disapprove. ;)

Author Reply: I'm not sure that Ithilien was completely peaceful; but it was definitely less dangerous than in TTT. And the Rangers were on leave when they 'helped out' the villagers with the harvest. But I think Faramir would be fairly easygoing, unless he felt the Rangers were getting sloppy, inefficient or had in any way preyed on the villagers. Even in Denethor's time, before the Ring War, the Rangers would have had to relax occasionally.

Thanx for reviewing!

Cute! Yes, a good way to find oneself in the red, I suppose.

Author Reply: Well, boys will be boys, even young men who are officers; I doubt there was any harm done; and a good time, complete with sampling the vintages, was had by all. And now they get to take tea with the Lady of the Shield-Arm.

Oh the difficulties of being the son of the father in peace time. A lovely moment.

Author Reply:

I think that there would have been occasional wars and expeditions; but this time was one of peace and, for the Rangers, a respite from duty. Thanx for reviewing!

Ah, yes, wine had to be sampled, of course... Very amusing.

Author Reply: Well of course, one couldn't let it go to waste, and the Rangers were doing their duty in helping the villagers...Thanks, Virtuella.
