Hi Linda, I was just looking around SoA today for older stories and happened upon this little Christmas tale. It's beautiful, and I can't think how I missed it before! In fact I do seem to remember reading it before, so I must have just missed reviewing. I hope you don't mind the very late review. Gil-Estel without the Shadow...beautiful indeed! Of course, Gil-Estel is also Earendil the Mariner, bearing the last Silmaril on his brow as he sails Vingilot across the skies...and therefore Eldarion's great-grandfather (Eldarion -> Arwen -> Elrond -> Earendil) so one can only hope Eldarion might hear again the tale of his forefather's heroic deeds! (Not to mention he's also Eldarion's ancestor through *Aragorn*, but tracing that line would take all night, lol! I'm sure you know all this anyway :) ) Thank you so much for giving me such a heartwarming tale to (re-)discover as I'm on my way to bed tonight! I wish I too could see Gil-Estel but alas, it's cloudy. *sigh* ~Kaylee! Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm delighted you enjoyed my story so much and later reviews are always an especial joy to know the story is not forgotten. I have a double drabble on LJ where Aragorn tells Eldarion about their ancestor. I just love looking at that star! Your kind words made my day!

wonderful blending of parenting and traditional observances; often wondered why more children and rangers weren't reminded that staying still while tracking game seemed to be easier than standing still while people poked sharp pins in intimate areas.... you can spend six hours waiting for the elk to get to the spot you are hiding but can't stand for thiry minutes and let them pin your inseams?/// n. Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm delighted you enjoyed this.May Eldarion thinks fancy clothes are for girls while tracking is a man thing?

Thank you for a most enchanting Christmas present. I see that Eldarion like his father is not very patient when it comes to trying new garments, a most delightful detail that; as also was the simple, beautiful and touching Ranger mettarė tradition you described. Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm delighted you enjoyed this. The idea just jumped ito my head and I was so happy to have a gift for all my friends here.It seems Eldarion is very much his father's son!

Oh, a wondeful little tale for Christmas. There is something that made me scratch my head, though. You say that they are celebrating Mettare, but what they actually seem to be celebrating is Winter Solstice as starting with 1 FA Mettare takes place on the 24th March, King's Reckoning. Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm pleased you enjoyed my story. I admit I'm no expert on M-e festivals, but I went by this reference in "Encyclopedia of Arda". " Mettare - The last day of the year; to the Elves, whose calendar started in spring, this was modern 6 April, but to the Dśnedain in Middle-earth, Mettarė fell in winter, on modern 21 December."

A heartwarming vignette, Linda! The bit where Faramir got tears in his eyes, remembering how it was before the Darkness fell, was especially touching. Ah, a most perfect tradition to share with the Ranger's son! And another Ranger will do similarly with his own son, I suspect! Lovely! Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm delighted you enjoyed this.I'm sure Faramir wil want to observe the tradition now,as well as Eldarion and Elboron when they grow up!
