| This is a lovely story -- and without realising it, there's a lot actually going on inside this tale. Each is seeing the poem from his own perspective and how it fits into the puzzle of time, or better yet, *their* time. I rather liked Pippin's; his perspective would often lead him back home, to the simple and beloved things closest to his heart. And yet each one's perspective had hope. | I love this realization of the changes going on in the world as seen by these three within Fangorn! Peaceful, thoughtful, curious but for the moment passively accepting until all reports are in and action is needed. And Pippin is beginning to truly see the world through the eyes of others, and appreciate other points of view, I think. Love it! Author Reply: Thank you so much Larner :-) The Hobbits had a lot of time to contemplate what had been happening to them, and others, while they were on their way to Treebeard's home. And, of course, Ents are usually long, slow thinkers anyway. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! | |

| I liked how Treebeard realizes the so-young hobbits yet have a certain racial age to them -- and trust him to recognize their earthiness! Meanwhile practical Merry determinedly counts trees to keep the dark possibilities from his mind. And Pip luxuriates in a series of reassureing and quintessentially hobbity memories of home -- and simply refuses to consider any dark future.
