Boromir's battle reflects both the book and film, skillfully woven into a coherent narrative. Well done! This must have been a shattering moment for him: So... I am not indestructible after all, he thought sadly. The voice of experience: "A broken blade is an honorable thing, for to break in good service is to finish well. Yet if we can find the broken shards, there is hope your sword can be reforged. You shall wield it again." I like the way Aragorn holds out hope here: but there may yet be a chance for you to set things right with Frodo. You have done much already to redeem yourself! ...and here is where this story diverges from the original. I'm fascinated. The theme of brokenness, begun with his sword, is extended to Boromir's wounded body. Also, if you need to take part of a tree without damaging the tree too much, who but a Wood-elf should you ask? (This chapter also stirs a dim memory of Pipkinsweetgrass's wonderful Beekeeper story, another AU where Boromir survives his wounds. It's been too long since I read that one, too.)

Love the story so far and love the fact that we can have an AU situation if Boromir had lived . Can’t wait to read more

Have finally been able to carve out time for fanfic again, and so glad I saw this on the first page at SoA today! I am only at the beginning, but I have to say I love the way you've turned Boromir's familiar death scene into something much more hopeful. Looking forward to reading more.

A skilled blending of book and film, and the departure as you creep into the AU-ness of the tale is subtly done. Looking forward to more.

Oh he's got a sucking chest wound, doesn't he? I bet A uses the sap to leave one side of the bandage open...clever. You've done your research! Author Reply: Hah, this is awesome! You know exactly what's going on here! I did do a lot of research for this healing sequence, and I also had the help of a wonderful friend who worked in first aid. So between her telling me what needed to happen and me trying to figure out how it could work in a Middle-earth setting, it turned out pretty well, I think. Thanks for reading with such insight! Good work on the details of Boromir's thoughts and reactions to his injuries, and on Aragorn's healing work - it reads very real.

Even while in severe pain, Boromir’s thoughts are only for the safety of the Hobbits. What a big heart he truly has. Crying out, or fainting from pain is not a sign of weakness; rather it is a sign of his humanity. I just know Aragorn will succeed in saving him.

Ah--the healing hands of the King augmented by the presence of the Elessar stone, and so they have a chance! Wonderful! Author Reply: I love that you mention the Elessar stone -- that really was part of Aragorn's healing ability, wasn't it? He had the power and the ability, but the stone augmented it. I always was certain that if Aragorn had arrived in time, he most certainly would have been able to help Boromir.

very nicely done! While I'm a Faramir and Aragorn fan, I've always felt sorry for the loss of Boromir. I know, I know--in such a tale as this, to have all the heroes survive would be a bit fantastic, but hey--it's high fantasy! And after all, Theoden, Theodred, Denethor, and Halbarad all died, so what's the harm in letting Boromir survive? :D Anyway, as you can see, I have often wondered how things would change if Boromir were allowed to live, but must say that many of the stories I have found that broached that topic have been less than thrilling. But yours is very believable! You are doing an excellent job so far in blending in the story and a very plausible explanation for Boromir's survival that makes it believable! You've done a great job in getting into the character's heads and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have planned. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting it! Author Reply: Thank you so much for your lovely review! I am happy you find the tale believable, that is what I most want to accomplish. It's not good enough to have Boromir alive, he has to be alive in a way that actually works. ;-)
