Only a Second or Two  by Larner 10 Review(s)
Kara's AuntyReviewed Chapter: 1 on 3/13/2009
Hello Larner,

how very sweet! Nice to have a Sam/Bilbo scene where the elder Baggins teaches the lad next door something other than his letters.

M;)

Author Reply: I suspect that Sam learned a fair amount from Bilbo, really. Thanks so for the review.

Ah--never really did think of where Sam would have learned his fire-making skills, if he wasn't intended to have a job that would take him anywhere. This explanation makes sense.

Author Reply: I'm glad you find it makes sense. But he had to have learned somewhere how to make a fire.

How fortunate that Sam had learned from Bilbo,it would serve him well.

Author Reply: Oh, indeed yes, Linda. Thanks so!

Dear Bilbo - he can't have known back then how very useful and important this lesson would be for Sam so many years later!

Author Reply: It's possible he might have had an inkling, of course; but mostly I think he would have just learned that such skills were indeed useful, and one he picked up himself because he had to during his journey with the Dwarves.

I liked the little bit of humor in this. I also liked how wrote in a way that really felt like Bilbo talking too. This was fun to read. :-)

Author Reply: I'm so glad you like it. And to know you think I managed to be true to Bilbo's voice is a blessing! Thank you!

I think I'll probably put these on LJ, but will do it a week at a time so as not to have a bunch of little posts floating around.

Excellent use of the prompt!

Author Reply: Am so glad you like it, Lindelea! Thanks so much!

The folks on the game show "Suvivor" most likely wish they had a lesson on making fires from Bilbo. I myself just like to tote arround a ranger or two to take care of the small stuff, like that.

Author Reply: Oh, I agree, Grumpy. I'll put my dibs on Aragorn, of course! Although Sam would definitely do well, too.

Thanks so!

Oh I just love this! I'm sure Sam wasn't the only one who was thankful, on this journey, for the Gaffer's teaching!

Author Reply: I'm certain you are right, Agape! Yes, all would be glad for the learning Sam took upon himself when he was younger!

Oh yes, he would, wouldn't he, as he found himself the glue that held the thing together in the end...at least part of it.

I just love your title for this collection, by the way. That really did take maybe twenty seconds to read.

Author Reply: How wonderful to hear from you, my Lady! Yes, our Sam did more than his duty to see all done properly!

Thank you!

And am glad you like the title--I'll try to keep these drabbles, so no one should feel reluctant to read them.

AntaneReviewed Chapter: 1 on 3/1/2009
Yes, many reasons to bless the bond between those three hobbits so closely knit together. Very nice.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Oh, how true, Antane! Bilbo must have made such a good teacher!
