My dearest Dreamflower, I have re-read "Trotter" and have decided to inundate you with a number of reviews :D perhaps you will like them, I hope! I knew those rooms couldn't have been made just for Bilbo, and it just makes so much sense for Hildifons, also, to have retired to Imladris! Why not, after all? :) I am glad Bilbo finally gets the chance to meet his uncle, so to speak!

I have been waiting on a time when I could sit and read all of this at once, but the chapters keep coming and I still don't have enough time so I am throwing caution to the wind and beginning! I can't wait any longer. This prologue is an excellent beginning. If I had been Bilbo I think I would have been more than a bit annoyed at being kept in the dark on this matter. Can't wait to see what's in the book and why Elrond kept it secret, other than the request of course. Author Reply: It's actually done on my LJ, and I just have about three more chapters to upload here. My deadline was this past Tuesday, and I just made it in under the wire! Yes, well, Bilbo *was* annoyed to begin with, but now his curiosity is being satisfied.

"the bedroom with the round door" How warm and cozy! Bilbo seems to be really enjoying his retirement among friends...as he should. Excellent! My apologies for a very late start, but between family needs and training for the 3Day Walk later this summer, RL has kept me pretty busy. I've been enticed to read about your Hildifons since the first alert, and I'm looking forward to reading the whole story! Author Reply: Well, I am just glad to see you here! (((hugs))) I hope you enjoy it all. Bilbo deserves a well-earned retirement, I think!

I'm so excited that someone wrote a Trotter story! I've always considered writing about Peregrin Boffin version of him, but never quite got to it. Trotter has always fascinated me. Great going, and I'm excitred to read the rest of the chapters! Author Reply: Well, as you see, I did not use the "Peregrin Boffin" version-- though I found it interesting-- but instead went back a couple of generations to another mysterious figure. I do hope eventually to capture the parts of the original "Trotter" that intrigued me: a hobbit ranger, the wooden shoes, the worldly wise attitude... I hope you like what I am doing with it!

Ooo! This is going to be fascinating! Your descriptions are so Bilboish here, and I love that you borrowed Tolkien's original name for Strider. :) Author Reply: Well, you know, originally "Trotter" was a "hobbit Ranger" who wore little wooden shoes...I always loved that image, and decided to borrow it.

Aha. I had thought perhaps the small plate and cutlery were not made for Bilbo, but for one who came before him...

Very interesting! No wonder the elves were so prepared for Bilbo's retirement! But Hildifons had decided to quit the Shire, and didn't want anyone told about him? Bilbo might find that journal more difficult to read than he is expecting. Author Reply: Yes, I think you are quite right about it being difficult for Bilbo to read.

How wonderful that Trotter is going to have his own fanfiction story; and what a great way to start it! Of course he had to be a Took. Author Reply: Of course he did! I have to say, the Trotter of JRRT's early drafts was my inspiration, but his origins are entirely mine, and you will notice he lives in quite a different timeline. But I could not get away from the idea of Trotter, the hobbit Ranger.

This should be interesting and I look forward to more! Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Well, I hope to keep the story moving! I have an eight-week deadline!

Oh dear Bilbo, I just love him in this prologue! His reaction to finding such an important tone, marching down the halls to Elrond and yet still so much that curious hobbit with his thirst for knowlegde! I am so curious what happened to Hildifons! Author Reply: He is still very curious about things--you and Bilbo will find out together all about his uncle!
