Ohhhh no! This chapter was so aptly named! Sometimes I despair completely of Galithil's sense. Poor Maidhien. The whole thing with that guard must have been like one of those nightmares when you know you have to do something but things keep happening to keep you from doing it... Author Reply: I think there are going to be a lot of people, Galithil included, that are despairing of his sense very soon! :-) Hehe! You're right! That's exactly the nightmare going on here, wasn't it?! Yuck! Well, the nightmare is going to get worse--it's going to turn into the one with orcs in it! Thanks so much for the review!

OK, I'm shaking my head here. A half truth is always worst than any other thing. The pot stirred is terrible! Right until that conversation Galithil was ready to remain. THe pot stirred and now he forgets what he said about being a silly thing and runs after the bad guys...with LEgolas on tow. I really admire you. I could not be writing all that, and I am having trouible reading and stopping myself from guessing what horrible things are going to happen. :-( Thrnaduil's surprise at the true state of the forst was very teling and I really like to see Dolgailon back. BUt all this has the marks of a great and kind of sorrowful confclit brewing. More, please. Author Reply: Poor Galithil. He needs to know the whole story, that's the truth. He could deal with not being allowed to go just for the adventure of it when his father saw through that. He could deal with Anastor and Noruil calling him names. But put not knowing the whole story about Maidhien's parents on top of all that and it was just too much for him. And horrible things are going to happen because of it--some will be immediately obvious and others obvious only later. A few people here and there have commented they are glad to see Dolgailon back and I'm glad. He'll have a pretty big role in this from here out. :-) Thanks so much for the review, Perelleth. Please don't fire me as a reviewer! I'm so sorry I've got so far behind but I wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I'm reading and very much enjoying the story. It makes my day when you update. I'll get back on track again soon, I hope, but I didn't want you to think I'd just abandoned it. I really am sorry. This latest chapter had me on the edge of my seat. I'm half afraid to see what happens next, yet dying to know! Author Reply: Hehehe! Dot you are awesome. No worries. I'm glad you are reading, but never feel pressured to review. It takes the fun out of reading. :-) I adore your reviews (and everyone else's) but I definitely know how RL demands absurd amounts of our precious ff time. ;-) The rest of this story should be pretty action-packed (or at least I hope it comes off that way), but it should make you happy to know that there will be no more eight-legged evils. ;-) In this story, anyway. Thanks so much!

Never review it before, but I'm reading and for a long time...Poor Galithil, he only gets the half truth of all the events and everyone wants him to behave right, if they take the time to really talk to him, they will save themselves a lot of problem...After his Father telling him that he can not fall in love with Maidhien (BTW, he only opened his eyes, he was just blissfully ignorant that he was in love with her) and no one telling him what her father did, his logical reaction is to find out and head straight to danger, taking Legolas along with him...it is just a big misunderstanding and miscommunication mess.. How old are Legolas and his cousins if we compare them with Humans? I was glad to see Dolgailon, you don't write too much about him, and I remember him in your previous stories, when he wasn't married and got in trouble (don't remember now, but something about men in the forest and they sent him with his Aunt to apologize and almost get kidnapped in their way back) I also remember how betrayed he felt because Tulus's son, well I just wanted to say that I like his character and story. Keep posting, this is getting very interesting…Thank you Author Reply: Wow it is fun to have reviews from new people! You are very right that the best way to get Galithil's cooperation is by giving him the whole story. He's not the type of person that reacts well to anything less. As we see here, because he really didn't even intend to go south, but he did it to find out about Maidhien's parents. Poor thing. This is one misunderstanding that people are going to pay dearly for. Legolas and Galithil are 34 and 35 respectively, so I imagine them around 13/4, more or less. Still the age where kids definitely don't make good choices consistently, but old enough to be learning to be adults. I'm glad you like Dolgailon. He will have a bigger part starting here, as you'll see. He will continue to play a part in GlÌlavan's betrayal. That story line is coming back to haunt us soon. Thanks so much for the review! That was a great surprise. Made my day! :-)

I love this story! I cannot wait to see what kind of trouble they get into now. Poor Legolas - tried to get help and no one would listen so he went after Galithil himself. Author Reply: I am so glad you are enjoying it. They will definitely be in plenty of trouble. Poor Legolas indeed. He truly does have the best of intentions here and things are just not going to work out well for him. Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them!

Oh, my... what a mess! I really wouldn't want to be Hallion right then, nor that guard at the front gate. If they had only listened and taken Legolas and Maidhien seriously.... And you know, I meant to ask you about that cave.... Maidhien is better at keeping the royal secrets than Hallion could ever have imagined. And Thranduil is in shock. And just realized that sending their wives to the villages was Not. A. Good. Idea. I guess reports just don't have the same impact as seeing what's going on yourself.... And the Orcs are massing.... Has anyone told you lately that you are cruel to your characters? - Barbara Author Reply: Yes, this is a real mess isn't it? I definitely agree with you about being Hallion and that guard. I would not want to face Thranduil when this is all over. Some of the parts of Part Four, when the kids are still younger, that I didn't publish yet also involve Galithil making naughty use of that cave. I'll eventually clean some of those up and post them too. But yes, this was one of the worst uses of the cave, though it comes up at in at least one more critical juncture. Secret doors are great fun. :-) Thranduil is really shocked at seeing this area. I had fun imagining how someone in his position would react to seeing the results of his decisions and the ruin of someplace once so important to him. It must be horrible. But yes, this is a bad time to have the inexperienced in the south. Definitely a bad time. Has anyone told you lately that you are cruel to your characters? Hehe! I am only getting started! Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them!

Wow, Elliska. I hope you don't make us wait too long for an update! During the last chapter I was thinking what a stick-in-the-mud know-it-all Legolas was being. Now I'm thinking what fools he and his cousin are! Hopefully all the kids will survive to face their parents' wrath. Author Reply: Hehehe! Legolas has had it with getting in trouble with Galithil but that isn't going to keep him from diving in after him (and paying the price for it). Poor kids. They really made bad choices this time. :-) And as for updates, if I leave the next few chapters as they are split up right now, they are all awful cliffhangers. Sorry! :-) Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them and I'm glad to hear from you.

Oh excellent. I've been watching for this all day. Boy, you could see Galithil's good intentions crumbling from the start. And he's like a bad angel, perched on Legolas's shoulder and whispering temptation in his ear. Of course, even when Good-boy Legolas intends to do the right thing, he gets drawn in. I like the little notion you slip in that Galithil sees himself and Legolas as less skilled with weapons than their mothers are. It's also an interesting tidbit that Aradunnon never punishes Galithil for missing lessons. I guess he sets priorities, and that's not one of them. It must have been really shocking for Thranduil to see the terrible changes in the forest and then the old capital. And that doesn't even touch the bad news about orcs massing to attack the villages. Did the Wood-elves feel some resentment that Angmar's evil was just pushed along to them, do you think? Hurry, Hallion! Hurry, Amglaur! Author Reply: Hehe. Poor Galithil. This time he even admits what he's doing is stupid and he's still going to do it. :-) I can't criticize him because even now I open my mouth in meetings and say stuff while my mind is saying, 'shut up, you are causing trouble.' I guess I identify with Galithil sometimes. :-) I like the little notion you slip in that Galithil sees himself and Legolas as less skilled with weapons than their mothers are. I think the one thing Galithil is honest about is his weapons skills, since that is so important to him. And he would know his mother's skills fairly well--he's seen her gaming with his father often enough. The problem comes in not being able yet to accurately estimate enemies' skills, since he hasn't seen them. He's going to. It's also an interesting tidbit that Aradunnon never punishes Galithil for missing lessons. I guess he sets priorities, and that's not one of them. Hehe! With a kid like Galithil you'd have to pick your battles, I think. ;-) I think if Thranduil went south into the part of the forest that Sauron damaged, especially areas where he remembered living, that would have to be really difficult. I enjoyed thinking about what his reaction would be. Did the Wood-elves feel some resentment that Angmar's evil was just pushed along to them, do you think? Oh wow, I definitely think so! I mean, canon says the Witch-King shows up in Mordor years after Fornost falls (ten, if I'm remembering right w/o access to my books right now). Canon doesn't really say where he went in the interim, so I'm taking some liberty here assuming he went to his master in Mirkwood. But I would really be peeved about being the guy who had Sauron and now the Witch-King moving in. I'd be really bitter if my village was moving because of that. We'll see a bit of that growing, definitely. Thanks so much for the review daw! :-) I appreciate them so much!
