Ah, I see, Dreamflower - so Norbert Longbottom is the hobbit for Miss Sackville, is he? I have to say, I don't know whether to be mad with him or pity him - and what relation is Gardenia to Camellia, I wonder? I've been doing a *huge* family tree of hobbits and how they all relate to each other - you know your hobbits have made themselves near enough canon to me. :) I do wonder what she and her Master Longbottom have to do with Otho, Lobelia, and Lotho! Unlucky at love and off on an adventure. Sounds like he has a plan. I doubt he knows what he's getting into but then, he is a Took! Author Reply: You are absolutely right on *ALL* counts!

Woah! Hildifons didn't even wait for Gandalf to leave the Shire on his own business in order to stowaway on his cart! Plucky little fellow. This is going to be an interesting adventure... Author Reply: Nope. He took off on his own! I do hope you will find it interesting!

Oh, poor Hildi...but what a very rash decision! Author Reply: Yes, well he's an impulsive Took! It was a rash decision, and yet I think it had quite as much to do with Gandalf's tales as it did a broken heart.

Ah, Gandalf spinning his stories! A spark of Adventure lights upon a young soul, finds purchase, and begins to burn inward... Looking forward to more! Author Reply: Yes, I couldn't let Gandalf off the hook entirely, LOL! And of course, Hildifons is in just the right state of mind to succumb to temptation!

Whee, Tookish wanderlust! And that whole "everyone in the family except for him knows it isn't going to work out" thing... yeah, been through that before. Poor Hildi--and somehow I don't think that leaving the Shire is actually going to help him find whatever he's looking for, at least not for a good while. Author Reply: Yes, definitely Tookish wanderlust! No, Hildi won't find what he's looking for, because he doesn't even really know himself. But what he will find will be far beyond anything he can imagine at this point.

I am sorry for his pain, but he is right, all of this as it happened was meant to be and I am intrigued with his adventures soon to begin. I love his sisters reactions to his being rejected. I would love to sleep under the stars. That sounds neat. I hope he is able to reach his family though at some point because they would be worried. I love also the not knowing what it was right or not that his brother didn't pursue the idea of going with him. That is how life is. We make choices and don't know all the consequences. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: We make choices and don't know all the consequences. Indeed, and that's really going to be a factor in Hildifons' adventures. He's young and impulsive and a Took.

Poor Hildifons! To be jilted so, and worse, everyone else saw it coming except him. He shouldn't have bereaved himself over such an unworthy lass, but it's easier said than done. It was a rather hasty decision to leave, one it seems he regrets now. I can't wait to see what happens next! Author Reply: It was the "everyone else saw it coming except him" part, I think, that hurt him most. Gardenia was very unworthy of him, but he wouldn't be the first lad to have that happen to him. He *was* impulsive. But then he was also a Took!

Poor Hildifons! It's hard to be jilted like that. On the other hand, a Sackville? It wouldn't have worked out! And now I know why Frodo, Merry and Pippin were always so fond of playing pranks. It lies in the family, on the Took side, of course ;-) I wonder what Hildifons will find in Bree! A “rag-tag conjurer”? Sooner or later they will meet again. Author Reply: Ah, no. But breaking up is hard to do. I think pranks must have run among several hobbit families--apparently JRRT was fond of a good practical joke himself from time to time! I am quite sure they will meet again.

Sackvilles were involved? Ah, the poor lad--he did not choose well at all, did he? And love Belladonna's reaction to the news--glad not to have to pretend to be nice to Gardenia any more! Now, how on earth did our Hildifons become "Trotter"? Author Reply: Yes, and though it does not enter into this story, Gardenia was aunt to Camelia. LOL! Hildifons younger siblings were certainly indignant on his behalf! You will find out eventually. *grin*
