Oh, Dreamflower! I wish I had a Hildifons (or any good hobbit, really) to cook for me - or to teach me to cook like that! I envy those Rangers; these Dunedain have found a definite reason to keep Hildifons around! :) I'm jealous of them, the meal sounds good for sure!(Some of the things I hadn't heard of, and I'm not sure wild onion would be any better for me than tame onion, which certainly isn't, but I'm sure a hobbit like Hildifons could help me figure out what was and wasn't safe for me to eat.)

My goodness! I would swear that I was well-fed earlier in the evening, but after reading this chapter I could sure go for a nice rump roast with carrots and mushrooms, lol. I'll bet your own cooking could put Gordon Ramsay to shame. ;-) Everytime I read one of your cooking tales I come away with my stomach growling, lol. I do love to watch your hobbits put on a lovely cooking show, though. :-) This story about Hildifons and his adventures is really a joy to read! Author Reply: *grin* Well, I do love to cook, about as much as hobbits do, I guess. Perhaps that's one reason I identify so much with them? I'm so glad you are enjoying it!

Leave it to a hobbit to repay others with cooking! Hildifons will be missed when he decides to leave or is forced to leave. I like the way he has learned so little about 'LongShanks'. I think that is very in character for Aragorn at that time. This is lovely and I am enjoying it but I must sleep for a couple of hours if I hope to stay awake for work tomorrow. I'll be back later for more. Author Reply: It's just the hobbity way, I think. Food just naturally occurs to them as the answer to most problems. Get some rest, dear! *pets you on head*tucks you in*gets ready to wander back to own bed*

Hildifons feels very hobbitish and a story so far is very plausible. Well done. Author Reply: Thank you dear! I'm glad you are enjoying it!

What a delightful meal! Now I'm getting hungry! And I enjoyed all the names for the mushrooms you came up with. I especially liked Chicken of the Woods. :D I see by appealing to their stomachs, he's managed to make the rangers forget about their plan to return him to the Shire - at least for now. Author Reply: I'm glad you liked the menu! But actually, I didn't make up those names, they are the actual names of mushrooms. (I put the link to the site at the bottom. It's a fun site, not only telling the names of British mushrooms, but which months they are in season and which ones taste the best as well!) Yes, between his cooking skills and his Fallohide charm he's managed to worm his way into their lives!

Useful indeed! We all could do with a hobbit or two at hand at times, I suspect! The mushrooms sound wonderful. Author Reply: Oh, I could always do with a hobbit or two on hand! I love that mushroom site. It enables me to easily find appropriate wild mushrooms in season. Of course, I occasionally have to change the name of one when it is too modern or too French, but overall it works well!

I bet the Rangers are going to want to keep Hildifons around; what a treasure a clever and resourceful and good cook must be out in the wilds! More soon, I hope! Author Reply: Real life's been very busy this week, but if all goes well, I should be able to update again by Monday at the latest, or tomorrow if all goes extremely well! *crosses fingers* Yes, the Rangers will soon succumb to the combination of hobbit culinary skills and Fallohide charm...

Hah--I saw the summary for this and I wondered if he was going to cook! ^_^ Those poor Rangers, out in the wild and with no culinary skill to speak of! And how nice that there's no more talk of sending Hildifons back. Author Reply: Of course he would! After all, we know from canon that cooking is usually the very first item on the educational agenda of any young hobbit! You'll notice even Gardenia *can* cook, though she chooses to keep her culinary repertoire small and limited to what she considers "genteel". They peobably do well enough--I'm usre their cooking is adequate. But adequate will hardly compare to Hildifons' skills!

*Grins* After reading the title I thought "cooking" - and I was right! Hobbits are amazing creatures, even more so when they are preparing a meal! And I was quite pleased not to hear any more of being sent away. Me too :) Author Reply: Yep. He could make himself useful in many ways, but only a hobbit could make himself indisensible by his cooking. So am I. I'm not ready for it to end quite yet!
