Very symbolic, Larner. Frodo was rather philosophical here, and his comparisons fit well. The end, with the little bird obvoiously staying on the ship and Sam's thoughts about it, made *my* throat tight. That was so touching! Author Reply: Thank you, Kitty. Frodo knows now he belongs elsewhere, but if he can find hope and heartening in such small birds he deserves it! And it's always a joy to learn that what I wrote has led others to feel moved. Thank you!

Ah a most touching story, Larner, thank you so much. How hard it must have been, both for Sam to let go, and for Frodo to make the decision to finally leave his beloved Shire. The little birds were a perfect addition. I'm sure the little fellow would be most welcome in Aman. Author Reply: You are welcome. It was wonderful to find someone with whom I share a good deal, apparently, as well as the love of these stories and for Aragorn. And I do hope there are more goldcrests in Aman! Thank you so, and hope your birthday was as happy as mine!

Oh, they really do enrich the earth! And the heart and soul. Love it. Love this bittersweet conversation and promise and the smile, of course, both of them. And the bird that followed Frodo. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Yes, they do enrich the earth. And just the right things to like, too! Thank you so, Antane.

How beautiful! I especially liked the last paragraph about the single goldcrest that followed Frodo to the Undying Lands. It's as if the small bird wanted to confirm Frodo's comparison and to assure him and the others that he did the right thing. Author Reply: Thank you so, Andrea. I, too, like the thought of one of the birds, perhaps the very one that looked Frodo in the eye through the dining room window, felt compelled to see to it that Frodo found his way to his new nesting place.

I loved the idea of the goldfinches following Frodo. Author Reply: Am so glad you do, Linda--a bit of home for him, finding the one goldcrest did accompany him to Elvenhome. A bit of a coincidence you accidently typing goldfinches, as the Pacific goldfinch is the state bird for Washington, and they are often seen about my property. They are a beautiful little bird. Although I see hummingbirds even more commonly here, which I understand are about the same size as your goldcrests. We also have little partridges that nest on the property--I am looking forward to seeing how many come to take dustbaths in the driveway once the summer is fully set in! This is a birdwatcher's paradise. I just hope that the one woodpecker doesn't try tapping itself nuts on the house siding again this year, trying to attract a mate! And we appear to have a pair of snowy owls as well as the bald eagles who fly over the property once or twice a week. I LOVE it here!

A heart warming story, sad but full of hope. Author Reply: Thank you so very much, Ainu-Yavanna. Am glad it struck you this way, just as I'd hoped it would!
