Moments in Time  by Larner 9 Review(s)
AndreaReviewed Chapter: 86 on 5/30/2009
Great story, Larner!

As was already pointed out in other reviews, Frodo gained a lot of experience in his Buckland years, especially the "rascal years" ;-)

But Ted did not know that, which was bad for him and good for Frodo! *Grins*

And what impressed me most was that Frodo had a backup plan!

Stolen from Frodo Baggins That was very clever, indeed!

It is no wonder that Merry in later years was also an expert in planning, for he had the best teacher.

Author Reply: Oh, yes, I do believe Frodo could be very devious when it suited him. And I would have loved to have known him when he was the terror of the Marish! And now Ted has had a taste of Frodo's cleverness.

And am glad the backup plan meets with your approval! Yes, Merry had very good teaching! Heh!

Thanks so!

And here I was expecting to read about cakes and pies!

This was marvelous--you know how much I like your devious Frodo, and the idea of him using his wit to bring perpetrators to justice was excellent and well-executed! "Stolen from Frodo Baggins" indeed. *grin*

Author Reply: No, no pies or cakes this time. And I do believe that Frodo must have been very good, when he wished to be, at figuring out how to manipulate others. Yes, he is expert at reading the hearts of his fellow Hobbits. Heh! Glad it gave you a chuckle!

Been reading some of the reviews for this and got to wondering just how much input Frodo actually had in planning the quest, I keep thinking he might have done things a little differantly if he had been given the chance!?

And yess if this nibbles at you you may have it with my blessings, I will even provide the virtual hutch and the carrots!

Author Reply: Well, you never know precisely what might end up being worked into "In Empty Lands," you know. It may take a few chapters to get there, but I think it MIGHT end up being covered. Heh!

Revenge is sweet! It seems Ted started being unpleasant very young.

Author Reply: Yes, I suspect Ted started quite young on his negative career. And I'm sure Frodo found revenge very sweet indeed!

Well, it's an hour yet until tomorrow for me, so I really shouldn't be peeking at this early birthday present yet *grin* But thank you so, Larner! It's just perfect! I love Frodo, though I haven't had occasion to write him much myself, and the hobbits were wonderful in this story!

Well, with the notable exception of Ted...but then he was even perfect in his...horrible-ness, if you get my meaning *grin* I'm sure his dad was angry and rightly so! Pity that he kept on like that in later life. *pokes Ted*

Thank you again for the birthdayfic, my friend!

~Kaylee

Author Reply: I'm so glad you enjoyed this, Kaylee. And there's no problem accepting the present early, you understand! Have a joyful birthday, and many more to come!

Am so glad you feel I caught the Hobbits well, including Ted Sandyman. Poor Ted--he is such a wonderful Hobbit to see thwarted--heh! Ah, but I love to see him get what he deserves from time to time!

Again, thanks so, and enjoy your day.

Good job Frodo is an honest lad, with his deviousness he could be a lot of trouble for someone!
Ted got what he deserved though!
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Oh, I bet that during the years Frodo was running wild in the Marish he could drive those who had to deal with him more than a bit crazy. That he could turn himself around and become as honest and honorable as he did must have been very satisfactory for all concerned. Too bad Ted Sandyman doesn't appear to have followed Frodo's example. Am so glad you feel Ted got what he deserved--I tend to agree!

Thanks so for the feedback, Lynda.

HA! That was one of the most satisfying ficlets you have written so far, Larner! I was smirking from the moment Frodo noticed the thievery and who it had been, knowing his reputation. And the trap he set for Ted was absolutely perfect! Of course, being caught by Saradoc is much better than only being caught by Frodo and Merry, and Old Sandyman would not dare to dispute Saradoc *evil grin* Our dear Ted will have some problems with sitting in the near future, I guess *very evil grin* Serves him right!

Thank you, Larner, that made my day!

Author Reply: Oh, I'm so glad you feel that way, Kitty. That Frodo could think of using Saradoc to assist in catching Ted just seemed so likely and so right. And you're right--when the Heir to the Master of Buckland himself catches your kid stealing, what can you do if you're the the local miller, right? Oh, but it is fun to write these looks into Frodo's more irresponsible youth from time to time. Heh!

Am so glad this made your day, for you helped make mine!

Oh, this really made me laugh - how clever an ending is that?! I enjoyed your story very much!!

Author Reply: Thank you--and thank you for nominating it for a MEFA--I'd certainly not expected THAT to happen! But now and then I like thinking to some of Frodo's escapades that worked, and almost missed being detected! Heh!

*grin* Frodo is definitely the clever one! LOL! I love that-- "Stolen from Frodo Baggins."

Not quite so dramatic as a troll's purse, but effective enough. But arranging for Saradoc to catch Ted in the act was nothing short of brilliant!

Author Reply: I always suspected that Frodo planned thoroughly! Heh! Glad you like it! Thanks!
