Alas for Arathorn son of Arador, son of Argonui! But at least Trotter had the chance to know Thorn's son, for a little while. I think Trotter would be uncommonly proud of the man Thorn's son grew up to be.

Hildifons did a wonderful job on his story with your help of course. I enjoyed this very much and I am certain that a journal like this would have been very comforting to Bilbo at that time in his life.

A well-lived life, with some regrets, but also many joys and gifts. He was lucky to have found such friends and family among the Rangers and Elves, who even made a room for him that he could live in comfort during his final years. Author Reply: Yes, he was lucky indeed. His life could have been far different if the Rangers had never rescued him from the brigands, or even if he had been successful in marrying Gardenia, only to find out too late that she did not love him. But Elrond is as "kind as summer", and he will see to it that his small guest does have all the comforts of home.

This little conclusion was very touching. I loved the description of the hobbit quarters custom-built--Hildifons still missed the Shire in his heart and at least this could bring it back to him somewhat. I have to wonder: did this make Estel think for a long time that all hobbits wore funny wooden shoes? That might be a good request to file away if you ever do another timestamp meme... Author Reply: Yes. I think it is a very good way, as well, to show the kindness of Elrond, and the love the Elves had for their small guest. What a cute idea! LOL!

Alas that Thorn fell, but what a nice little 'gap filler' you have made here, filling in his life. Now Trotter will be friends with Estel too for a little while. I love the connection here and cute to have a hobbity room in Imladris. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I did really, want to let him have a chance to meet the son and grandson of his dearest friends. I had always envisioned Bilbo's quarters as being sort of hobbity, and when the prologue to this story came to me, I suddenly realized *why*.

On the opposite side of the room was a door: a round door. Oh, I would have loved to be there at Trotter's side to see his joy! The Elves must have had someone who described a hobbit's home to them. Was it Gandalf? And far too soon poor Trotter loses another dear friend! But if any ever should read it, I hope they know it was a life worth living for all its sorrow, I knew great joy as well. He's a special one! Author Reply: It would be a nice thing to see, wouldn't it? I'm sure Gandalf did advise Elrond, and possibly he remembered some of the things Trotter had said about the Shire during his previous convalescence in Rivendell. I know. Blame the Tale of Years.*sigh* Poor Trotter! Well, going by the other members of his family that we know, Bilbo, Frodo, Merry and Pippin-- I think he'd have to be kind of special. Thank you, dear!

What a wonderful testimony to how life ought to be lived--thoroughly, and ended while surrounded by those who care for you. And he's seen the death of the Mannish brother of his heart, and thinking of him when he sees young Aragorn! Oh, Estel, how blessed you are, to know this Uncle, if only for a brief time. Author Reply: I felt it was only appropriate that he should be surrounded by those who appreciated his life. I was very sad, as I read through the ToY to plot all this out, to realize just how close together the traumas of losing Arador and Arathorn would be for him. It seemed only fair that he at least get to meet the one who would fulfill his father and grandfather's hopes.
