Oh, so good to see this at last! Wonderful! Yes, there was a reason for him saying that! Dear Pippin--this is precisely why we love him, wise Took that he is. Author Reply: Yes, I've always known Pippin has a lot more sense than he's given credit for, especially in the movies. Glad you liked it!!

"That is, as long as you promise to put the jesting aside once in awhile and show them what you’re really made of!" That's our Merry! He only wants to make sure that the other members of the Fellowship appreciate Pippin as a valuable companion. And Pippin showed them what the kin of the Old Took is made of more than once on the quest! However, not only Frodo, but in fact the whole Fellowship needed someone to cheer them up during the quest. Without Pippin around, they might have given in to despair. So, even his acting like the "fool of a Took" was in fact crucial to (or for?) a successful mission. Author Reply: I thought it was very important to show that Merry wanted his young cousin to be treated with respect and not seen as a silly child. Pippin has a heart of gold, and he also has a great deal of spunk and courage, else he would not have made it through to the end. I think Pip was indeed a "crucial" component of the Quest's success. Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Andrea!

I love that conversation between Merry and Pippin. It rings true for me. You did a good job blending book and movie verse! Author Reply: Thanks Shirebound! I'm pleased to note that I've had some very positive response to this one so far. As for the movies, Pip and Merry deserved so much more than being portrayed in the beginning as slapstick comedy doing pratfalls. Grrrr! I'm so glad you liked what I did with this!
