Distractions  by GamgeeFest 7 Review(s)

“Some wounds can never be healed,” Frodo said and went into the kitchen to clean up.

Now that's a sentence that is dying to be followed up on! I hope you do and perhap even these two wounded ones can find some peace and healing together.

Author Reply: Peace and healing won't come to Frodo until after he crosses the Sea, but perhaps the wounds of the others can be healed here.

I do hope the hobbits are able to do something to help this family and that in the process Gerdy regains her speech. The luncheon went very well and I think Frodo enjoyed it too. That bit at the end with Frodo's line, (“Some wounds can never be healed,” Frodo said and went into the kitchen to clean up. ) Very nice foreshadowing that.

Author Reply: The hobbits will certainly do all they are able to in order to help them. They've already helped, though they don't know it yet. The luncheon was a huge sigh of relief to the conspirators. Frodo did enjoy it, though he's wise enough to still be suspicious.

Frodo isn't speaking of himself here, but we all know that it applies to him. He still hopes to get better here. It isn't until he gets home that hope begins to leave him.

I don't know whether to compare this story to an intricate puzzle or perhaps to one of those entertainers (are there still any around?) who used to balance great numbers of twirling plates atop long poles. You weave a complicated and entertaining tale, my dear. And how fun was this little bit!: "Merry did manage to coax Sam into giving him a copy of the list of proprietors from Aragorn’s study, on the basis that Sam had written this out prior to Frodo’s interruption..." Your hobbits are kings of rationalization.

Author Reply: Thank you, cookie! Though admittedly, much of the puzzle is just me trying to figure everything out as I write! As I've said, when I first started writing this, I really had no idea what was going to happen with it. It was supposed to be only a one-shot. ;)

Merry may have a flare for Took logic, but he's also a calculating Brandybuck. And Sam knows when to be stubborn and when not to be! :D

A lovely luncheon party. Love the "It's a circle!" Although technically I don't think they were true circles, as there's the mountain right back of the city itself.

Now, to see Gerdy find her voice once more--I'm certain it's there!

Author Reply: The luncheon went as good, and better, as could be hoped, and while Frodo knows *somethings* going on, he's yet to figure it out. The fourth circle is an actual circle, according to the drawing in the Atlas of ME. There is the walkway to the tombs cutting through it, but one can imagine they made a pathway through it. ;)

Gerdy will need some persuassion but it is there, waiting.

What a delightful luncheon! I feel as if I know more about hobbits than I did before. And Gimli's joy and excitement is so lovely. :)

Author Reply: There's always something to learn about hobbits, even if you've known them for a hundred years. ;) Happy!Gimli is fun. :D

“That was pleasant, more or less,” Pippin said.

I agree! It went quite smoothly. And I found it interesting that while they were talking each hobbit found a thing or too he had in common with the ladies and girls.

I think that the aim of this invitation, the distraction of Frodo, was reached, even if he was reminded of his parents' death and his current state of health.

Frodo has not realised yet that he already is in the middle of the *real* prank. I wonder how long it will take him to do so!

Author Reply: First lunch went better than they could have expected, a good sign for possible future guests. They have much in common with their guests, which helped to make a successful first luncheon. Frodo was certainly hood-winked on this one, though he does know that *something* is up. ;) It will be interesting to see just how long it takes before he begins to suspect the real reason for all these houseguests.

Well, *that* went very well! Frodo figured it was a "conspiracy" of sorts-- though apparently so far he thinks it was only one to "spare him", and has no idea it has any connection with pranks.

It's going to be interesting to see if the hobbits do manage to figure out Aragorn's secret before Arwen arrives.

And Gandalf's errand? Does that have anything to do with a certain sapling?

Author Reply: It will take awhile for Frodo to catch onto to this one. This is a far more subtle prank that the previous one and far removed from any Merry and Pippin have pulled before.

We'll see if they figure it out or not. ;)

A certain sapling? Why yes! :D
