Dear Grey Wonderer, You began this marvelously humorous story about Frodo's role in the lives of Merry and Pippin with the young Took. One of my favorite lines depicted Pippin as a rocker toys that pops back up just when its about to touch down. Then on to Merry. I could imagine him trying not to squirm as Frodo relentlessly shot down one after another of his excuses and rationalizations: Why don't I take a small nap in the name of gracious hospitality?", "I Don't recall us discussing this.", "I'm not honestly full of energy.", "It's barely light out.", "I doubt I'll be good for much of anything today.", "I'm one of those guests or have you forgot that?", Next he attempts to deny his trick to put Pippin off wanting to go to the Dragon with him stating he thought Pippin would get bored and go to sleep. Merry goes downhill from there That's Frodo, holding his ground until Merry has no choice but to own up to his unkind lack of consideration for Pippin. It was rich when Merry assumed conceding Frodo's point would be enough for him to be allowed to stumble off to bed with a casual, "Now that's settled." But no, Merry may have believed he understood that setting Pippin up for an exhausted day for no good reason was wrong, but after plowing through Frodo's list of chores the point would have been confirmed and felt, loud and clear in his weary bones, muscles and brain. As implacable as Frodo is carrying out the lesson to Merry it is clear throughout that he loves him dearly up to blotting the gravy from his naughty cousin's face and easing him into bed. This story abounds with that gentle hobbity humor that makes hobbits so endearing. This is the kind of slice of life in the shire Frodo will offer up his life to save. Thank you for giving me a hobbity respite from real life and for all the chuckles. You know these characters well and are so talented! Please write more.

LOL! I love how Merry stopped being so irritated and annoyed as soon as Frodo took him to the parlor to get a good look at his handiwork. Not that he stopped arguing his cause of course, but he knew he would lose the fight in the end. ;) This was delightful, as always, GW! Author Reply: Thank you for reading it. This story started out to be about something completely different so I was surprised when it turned into this. I may have to go back and try to write the other story at some point. LOL Merry put up a good fight but as we all know, Frodo had most of the ammunition in this battle!

This was such fun! However, seeing as I had a very busy day today, I found myself yawning during the whole first portion of the tale. I think you could have put a 'yawn' warning up for your readers *g* Author Reply: First, I deleted the duplicate review for you. I've done that before too. Perhaps since this tale was full of yawning I could market it as a sleep aid. (No, wait! I'm not allowed to make money on this sort of thing.) Maybe I'll just list it as a bedtime story. : )

Ah, cute! Dear Pippin and his so-literal mind! Heh! Lovely images of Merry falling asleep on his dinner plate! Heh! Nice! Author Reply: Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

*giggles* *yawns* *giggles again* Poor Sam is going to wonder why Pippin is staring at the top of his head, lol! This was so dear! Thank you. :) Author Reply: Yeah, if Frodo doesn't explain that soon, Sam will have a Took staring at his head most of the day. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reviewing.

“I won’t say anything but I just want to look at the top of his head,” Pippin whispered. LOL!!! It's amazing that he was awake enough to remember that particular word. I'm quite sure that Merry learned his lesson well. Frodo's educational skills are really excellent. And concerning what I said before, I'm quite impressed with him that he managed to stay up that long! On the other hand, he might have had a little nap while Merry was at the market ;-) Last, but not least: Happy Birthday, Dreamflower :) Author Reply: Pippin always remembers the stuff that can get him into trouble. LOL Yeah, I think Merry has figured out that there isn't going to be any easy way around Frodo. Frodo probably did sneak in a nap somewhere. Maybe after he sent Merry off to do the washing. That would have been a good time too. Thanks for reading!

Oh, thank you, thank you! I needed a good laugh today. And the images of Merry with gravy in his hair and Sam with a flat head should keep me chuckling for the entire afternoon. I hope you enjoy your day as much as I will now. Author Reply: You are most welcome. I'm very glad that you enjoyed it. And I really did have a nice day by the way. I had a very good nap. : )

*laughs* Oh, GW! This is perfect! I just love Frodo's cleverness and Pip's stubborn insistence that Sam is 'flat-headed', not to mention Merry giving Pip an incentive to stay up all night...one he's got no right to give. I wonder if there's a sequel in the works so we can see what Paladin would have to say if Pip did go to the pub? Very well done! Kaylee! Author Reply: I am so glad you liked it. I think Frodo did have to be very clever to stay ahead of these two trouble-makers. I don't know if there will be a sequel but it could happen. This one wasn't supposed to be about what I actually wound up writing. LOL That always happens to me. Thanks for the lovely review and for reading.

“Frodo,” Pippin whispered. “Yes, Pippin?” Frodo asked. “I think Merry’s fallen asleep with his face in his plate,” Pippin frowned. “He’s getting gravy all in his hair, Frodo. Should I wake him?” “No,” Frodo whispered. “Just finish your meal. I’ll get Merry to bed afterward. He’s had a long day.” *snortgiggle* Frodo is such a good mentor to these youngsters! What a delightful gift for our Dreamflower. :) Author Reply: Frodo came up with a very good punishment in this. It fit the crime and Frodo was clever enough to get his chores done in the bargain. LOL Thanks for reading this one.
