“Not much to tell really,” Sam lied. -- I love this kind of stuff. ;o) Really enjoyed your poems/songs. And, random thought: if Rosie ever finds out how those "healing" stones work on Sam, she'll get some to use on him herself! Author Reply: The stones don't lie - and they even manage to get Sam to loosen his tongue! Well, Gimli did give those stones to Frodo and Sam as well. I'm sure Frodo will be more than happy to pass them onto Rose. She's going to need them! (Can't you just see her sitting down to tea with her mother and relaying all the wonderful things her amazing husband does and ending it with, 'but he never tells me how he *really* feels'?) ;)

Sam closed his eyes and hummed again, a little smile on his lips. “Can it have bubbles?” *grins* Those stones are great! And I wonder how the story of Osric and Jamila will go on... One thing is obvious, though, none of Osric's companions would have expected him to hold his ground that long ;-) Last, but not least, I would really love to hear Pippin singing again. But I understand that he waits for a special occasion to do so. May it arrive soon! Author Reply: :D Sam should get that stone treatment more often. He's such a delight to write when he isn't so closed off. Osric has been giving me a real headache. He insists on falling for Jamila. I'm doing my best to keep him intact.... He certainly did surprise his friends. They don't doubt his valor on the battlefield, but a spear doesn't do much good when trying to woo a woman. ;) Oh, the singing is coming. I realized early on that I would be able to work that plot into this story. We'll hear him sing before the end, I promise.

A delightful evening, and loved the li'l reference to the ongoing movie joke! Heh! Author Reply: The lads had a fine time and enjoyed their night of relaxation. Dwarf-tossing was probably a popular sport in later years. ;)

What a fun chapter! I hope the subplot with Osric and Jamila works out without Osric losing any body parts! And your songs were delightful and very hobbity. Sam was cute, getting the stone treatment-- I love all of the things he told Frodo he was "feeling", LOL! It seemed to surprise and amuse Frodo no end! And I love the game of pennies-- it seems a lot like a "grown-up" version of the Stones game wee hobbits play in my Shire. And with their dexterity and quickness of eye, hobbits would be really good at it! I'm sure a *lot* of pennies got lost that night! And Merry flirting with the barmaid made me giggle. Author Reply: hehehe Osric is playing with fire here! If only he knew how much trouble he is causing me! But, being a man in love, he simply doesn't care. *sigh* Sam is adorable, so uninhibited. Considering that he hardly ever tells anyone what he's really feeling or thinking about things, it's no wonder he had such a flood of revelation. Frodo enjoyed it immensely. :D They'll be finding pennies till the New Year! lol! I'm glad you enjoyed the songs, and Merry was more successful than you might think. ;)

Dear Sam! He finally was able to relax and tell Frodo everything on his mind, including a love of bubbles. What a darling and sweet scene. “I do but not of late,” Pippin said. “I am waiting.” “Don’t wait too long,” Cuthred said, “or you’ll wake an old man and wonder where the time went.” “I’ll be more likely to wonder when I became a man and bemoan the fact that I won’t be able to sneak into the kitchens for a midnight snack without smacking my head on the ceiling and waking all the Smials,” Pippin said, grinning. That's delightful. :) Author Reply: Sam really shouldn't talk about Frodo never wanting to admit what he feels like! Sam is just as bad, if not worse. And really, who doesn't love bubbles? ;) Pippin is ever quick to point out the advantages of being a hobbit. ;) Those midnight snacks are ever so important.
