| Sorry, cousin mine, that it has taken me so long to get this finished! I have wondered how Merry, Pippin and Sam got so close that Sam named two of his children after them. I especially loved the agony Sam pours out at having to watch his/their beloved heartbrother fall farther and farther apart on the way to the Fire and being unable to stop it. I am reaching that point myself in my Letter story and you say it just beautifully. Merry's agony is clearly shown as well. Glad Sam was able to clear that up. Surely the only thing more stubborn than a Baggins is a Gamgee watching over a Baggins. Love also the words that those in the heart are never truly apart, no matter what the distance. They will have need to remember that in a little while. Love also the memories of beloved cousins that Sam is able to provide to Merry. Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Your busy, intense, quirky, passionate, [more than] slightly scatter-brained spring berry :) who BTW cannot face you hands on hip because she's hanging on for dear life on the side of the cliff you are so callously having her hang from for weeks on end! :) :) Author Reply: Hello m'dear, I was going to answer this two days ago, but I thought you might like a new chapter of a certain story instead... Glad you liked A Familial Bond though. It was my stab of a guess at how they went from friends to family, and I'm thrilled you enjoyed so many aspects of it. | That was a great story! Both of them, Merry and Sam, feel guilty because they could not spare Frodo the pain he endured. But that's an aim that no-one could have achieved. It was meant to be so, and it turned out to be the best way possible. And it's so typical of Frodo Baggins to feel guilty for giving his cousins the slip! If that isn't *daft* either! Last but not least, it was to be expected that, even if Sam spoke as fast as he could, Pippin was able to understand him. For Pippin invented fast speaking ;-) Author Reply: Hello Andrea, Merry and Sam, eh? One is as bad as the other for their misplaced guilt! In fact, Pippin probably felt guilty too, and we all know Frodo did. *shakes head* Hobbits! But you are right: Que sera, sera and all that. At least Frodo got out alive (against all odds) and lived long enough to know joy again in Valinor - even if it was without the others (until Sam came). I've always felt a little bit sad that Merry & Pippin couldn't have seen him truly happy one last time, too. And trust a Took indeed to understand the fine art of speed-talking. | This is a good take on a talk that Sam and Merry must have had at some point. I know Merry would have felt keenly the idea that he'd not kept his promise to stick with Frodo, and only Sam could have relieved his mind. Author Reply: Hello Dreamflower, I'm glad you think so too! Poor Merry must have kicked himself at some point and blamed himself for not being there for his big cousin. Thankfully, Sam was able to show that both he and Pippin were with Frodo right the way to Mount Doom and back. Thanks for enjoying and R & R-ing, M ;) | |

| I LOVE Sam explaining about meeting the emissary from Eryn Lasgalen! Ah, yes--definitely a moment he would savor in private and wish not to say a good deal about to others. Dear Sam--always afraid of putting himself forward! Heh! Author Reply: Hello Larner, I'm so glad you enjoyed Sam's moment of embarrassment at having to explain his 'errand'. When he first met Merry at the wall, I had no idea how to explain his presence there and just had him brushing it off rather ambiguously, but when I got to Pippin's arrival, I sort of panicked because I knew the pesky Took would demand a more detailed explanation (which meant I had to pull something 'out of the hat'). | Well, if this isn't one of the most delightful conversations ever! I just loved every bit of this. These four hobbits are most definitely family, and no mistake. And Mr. Legolas' old Gaffer, LOL! Those four hobbits really are like an individual hobbit family, with all other hobbits in the LOTR universe orbiting around them like satellites... Which would make them planets, I suppose. Ah - a new galaxy is born and I christen it Baggee Branook Baggee Branook - get it? Anyway, enough of my nonsense. I'm so glad you liked their serious and humorous meanderings.
