I just reread this chapter and I still really like it because of the way it gives the reader an insight into everyday (well, as "everyday" as a betrothal is) life in Rohan. It's such a sweet microplot to stick into everything else--and Niarl's teasing (I preferred it when you were moping) and Gleowine's advice (which is helpful to the whole story at large) just add to the joy of reading! Author Reply: Thank you! I quite like this chapter myself, it's like a little story within the story and a bit more light-hearted than the rest.

It was a great joy to read this again, to see how Deoric's tentative experiments with the paints and his renewed ability to ride were juxtaposed with Niarl's wooing and winning of his bride, and the task Deoric has been set - to collect the stories of his land. The scenes with Gleowine are lovely, and I hope to see more of your stories with the gruff old minstrel in. Author Reply: Gleowine will pop in and out of the story as the plot permits. :D

Clever! Ah--so clever! I like the way the girl's mind works! And the visit was delightful!

Oh! The ending was delightful.... tricksy one! And I loved the description of Deoric's labors at the colors... very nicely written. Author Reply: It's quite fascinating to read about about pigments and painting with egg tempera. There'll be more about that.

A canny lass, making sure she gets her man. Lovely detail here. LBJ Author Reply: Thanks. Yes, not everything is how it seems at first glance, which is part of the theme of the story.
