As much as Renna deserved to die I can't help being concerned that it was Tamin who took her life. He was such an innocent I'm sure it's going to come back to haunt him. I'm glad to see Durfinwen is showing signs of accepting her heritage though. Wonderful chapter as ever. I'm sorry to hear real life has not been kind. I hope things get better soon.

To Shlain: When Durfinwen says, And I – wretch that I am! I was his beloved – I, I! But he was not mine – not mine.” ...she is saying that while Belias loved her, she did not love him. And when she says, "In vain did I tell her I was but your mercer and you but my lord; that we had never lain together, despite the one who desired me most" ...she is saying that Renna came to believe Durfinwen was Legolas' beloved (and vice versa), even though Durfinwen denied it and said she and Legolas had never lain together, despite Belias' affection for her. This is why Renna stole Durfinwen's hair and dress and wore them herself. She believed it would help her gain Legolas' affections. I think I've got that right. Perhaps someone else can jump in if I've got it wrong?

Oh my word. Well, before I forget, I hope everything is okay, Rouret. It is wonderful that you share your talents with us but I would hope we wouldn't put pressure on you to update when you have more pressing things to deal with. Most of us have followed you long enough to know that isn't your nature to abandon a story you're writing, so I trusted you'd be back sooner or later. So, I was all set to gush over the Legolas/Durfinwen-ness of this chapter, but then Tamin killed Renna(!). And I guess I can't get over it quite like. It is deeply sad to see him lose the light which made him so special. There might not be a lot of sympathy for Renna, but you can't help but wonder what this might mean for Tamin too, given that he has become in some ways the opposite of what he was when we first met him. It's terribly tragic. Perhaps he has gone too far the other way. Thank you for the update, and for yet another exciting and unexpected turn of events. I am very much looking forward to the next update.

PS: I'm still against the Legolas/Durfinwen romance. She loves Belias and eventhough he is dead his soul now waits to be reborn in the Undying Lands. It would seem so unfaithfull and as though her love was shallow. I'm up for a Durfinwen/Belias reunion in the Undying Lands. Maybe a short little story like the lieutenant and the huntsmistress, mmm? Keep up the great writing.

I'm a little confused. I understand that Durfinwen and Belias were beloveds but what does she mean. Did Durfinwen and Belias "lay" together? Is that what she meant or did Renna use her power to convince Belias to lay with her? And what did Durfinwen mean when she said Belias was never hers; that she loved him but he not her? I may just be reading things wrong. Can anyone help me out here? And to Le Rouret on the tough time she is going through: Dont worry for this too shall pass.

Ohh ... I'd glad that Renna's dead, but not that it was Tamin who killed her - I think this will come back to haunt him. And why has he kept the dragon's fang? What is he going to do with it? I liked the false password - what a clever idea!

Le Rouret, glad that you are back; I've forever waiting for your update. First, I hope that whatever is wrong in you life has been resolved. I have to laugh about your muse watching "Whose line is it anyway? I often watch the show when I'm down... Well, you really don't disappoint, this was a great chapter. At the beginning I was glad that Durfinwen seemed partially recovered, the same with Legolas and Tamin, love the fight between them, I'm with Ve's father, are we sure that Renna was not right about those two? For a moment I was thinking that Tamin was too enamored of her and the dwarves, what a bunch of delightful gallant knights are they, precisely what she needed...Let me stop a moment and mourn Belias, poor Belias, loyal to the very end... And then, Renna is in the picture, what a terrible set back, I suppose that is good for them to confront her, but that was awful....Tamin just did what I'm sure I could have done, too much stress and grief for someone so young to handle, but I only think that his innocence is forever lost and no a Little One anymore, such is the price of war... Durfinwen or Anorien? That is the question...so she is royalty.... Thanks to your beta and I don't need to tell you how much I wait and anticipate your updates...just for the records even if at this point it doesn't matter anymore, this is certainly not a "romantic tale", I want Durfinwen and Legolas together... Thank you

"Facinorous hedgehog"--I like it, too. I don't even know how to review this chapter; it is just so fantastic. I love how you take us through such high and low emotions in every chapter. The contrasts between the little jokes and the absolutely horrifying events of the story are just glorious. Speaking of contrasts, I love that, while the story is wrapping up and heading toward its conclusion, Legolas is more out of control than ever. He can't help Durfinwen, he's still far away from Erebor, the plot was apparently way more complicated than he thought (Ushtak! and Renna!), and Tamin--Oh Tamin!--has had a bit of a breakdown. That was heartbreaking by the way, but beautiful. Anyway, my heart is overflowing with joy from this wonderful, fabulous, amazing update.

Whoa. Just.... Whoa. What a contrast between Malbeach and Renna. (I was somewhat surprised that they didn't at least pile some stones upon Malbeach... his grief/guilt/repentance seemed to have warranted more than just leaving him to rot - that is not an action that I would have ever expected from Elves. (Yeah, they were hungry/exhausted/beaten/grieved - but they managed for Bandobras.)) Renna was absolutely vile. Poor Dúrfinwen... She was doing so much better, and now I have to fear that Renna's vile (there's that word again - can't find one better) threats will bring it all back fresh to her memory again. Not to mention the chance that the audience of Dwarves heard... cringe Poor Tamin, too; innocence lost. I hope nobody has any stupid ideas of punishing Tamin for this... Justice was served even if the protocols weren't followed. And I have to fear for Legolas' sake - he seems to think that Kaimelas is doing fine as (val)ambassador. I hope that when he meets up with the Elves, that Kaimelas is still among the living; poor Legolas really has had horror upon horror piled up (and is no doubt blaming himself for Tamin's actions, in addition to Bandobras' death), and I hate to think of the added burden he would bear with blaming himself for Kaimelas' (possible? probable?) death.
