Even though, I'm very anti smoking, I enjoyed this.We know now how is to blame for Aragorn's bad habit! In my stories I have him give it up once he is crowned to please Arwen. Author Reply: Had I thought to put more into the one-shot (well, I originally did play with the idea a bit, come to think of it again), the result would be quite similar to what are in your stories. :) In the end, I only hinted it somewhere in the piece. I was too big of a softy to put Aragorn in the 'firing line' of Arwen's wrath, that is why. *grin* I am anti smoking too, but I figured out that writing about it doesn't mean perpitrating that bad habit to encroach on more people than already. This one-shot is sort of a companion piece to one of my crossover stories, by the way; posted in FanFiction.Net and Lord of the Rings FanFiction. Sadly we can't have crossovers here... Oh well. Thanks very much for your comments! I'm glad to have heard what you thought about this piece and the idea in it. - Rey

I loved the image of 10 year old Estel trying to figure out what Gandalf was doing! There will be more chapters to come I hope. Author Reply: Haha! Yes, I love that also... Well, actually, I love every stage he took there in the piece. I threw in the pet tortoise for good measure. *grin* Hope that made you love his ten-year-old self more. Actually, I had a canonical base for him meeting with Gandalf at such age. Gandalf visited the Last Homely House together with the Dwarves and Bilbo when Estel was about 10 years old, and so I assumed that the two - the Wizzard and the Dúnadan - most likely met during the two-week sojourn there in Imladris. Sadly, this was only a one-shot... There will be no more chapters of it. (And I don't have any idea about what to write anyway if I were to proceed.) So sorry... Well, this is not my only piece about Aragorn. :) Hopefully you will like the other one (a three-chapter short story about him and Barliman Butterbur and a stranger maiden), which I will be posting later in this week. - Rey

This is great fun! - especially good to read it now as my dad is trying to give up his pipe and not making a good job of it temper-wise! Author Reply: Glad I made you happy! :) Ah... smoking... My dad also smokes, and the proverb "Old habit dies hard" works well with that particular habit of his. *grimace* I had the idea of this piece from observing him. Hopefully your dad will work it out well after all! - Rey
