The fact that he was criticizing Fimlin throughout the sparring must have been seen by the guard as being somewhat condescending, and increased the respect of the rest of the spectators as they watched him win. Not precisely the callow youth they'd expected! Author Reply: LOL Well, let us say he had his own surprises to 'hand out'... *grin* I think it is the inevitable aspect of strangers meeting each other for a prolonged period of time. You provided a very accurate summary of what the spectators would think and say to each other had I taken the point of view of Fingon's people instead of Erestor. (Something I have not yet dared to attempt, truthfully.) The training scene was actually intended to provide a deeper look into Erestor's character; he was always portrayed as flustered and unsure of himself in the other chapters, but it was not his whole personality. I came up with this when I was at the peak of my frustration of developing his character. (LOL) His 'teacher side' will be more pronounce in later chapters, but it only comes slowly into view, given how mobile and action-based his life was forced to be in such a dark time. Glad you seemed to think the training made the people see Erestor beyond his timid, unassuming self. It was my aim all along. :) - Rey | |

Hi. I really like your story, I think is excellent. I love your characterization of Fingon and how the relationship between him and Erestor evolves as well as the one between Ereinion and Erestor. I'm looking forward to reading more of them. Author Reply: Thanks! I am really, really, really sorry for the lateness in replying to your review. I was swamped with the administration things I had to do for my graduation from university, ad that problem was coupled with how crankily my Internet connection behaved... Well, it still does, but at least now I got the time to do things online. Anyway, I am very glad that you like this story. I am always anxious f there is something wrong with the interactions, since I am 'playing' with known - and much at it, too - characters... Well, I guess that is my fault of choosing to work with them in the first place. We shall see more interactions in the coming chapters, but Fingon will - sadly - have to leave soon. I hope you would not mind? Well, Erestor and Ereinion will still be there, though. And there is more... interesting... interaction between Erestor and another party which will be introduced in Chapter 6. :) Thank you again for read-reviewing! And I am sorry for my chattery reply.
