GamgeeFest's Keepsakes  by GamgeeFest 10 Review(s)

I love Aragron comparing hobbits for rangers, and the fact that hobbits pounce of mushroom and berry patches. Aragorn sure did get a eye opener on his trip with the hobbits!

Author Reply: It is hard to imagine hobbits walking past edible mushrooms and not pouncing on them! Rangers and hobbits may have their differences, but they both possess bravery and devotion. Thanks for reading!

Interesting conversation and observations - that the days are darker because the hobbits are quieter, that every Ranger (as well as every wizard as Gandalf says later) should have a hobbit with them, that just because an ancestor was messed up doesn't mean we will be (that's the best) and that Frodo is given new determination (as if he needed any) to fight against the shard. Aragorn has received an education tonight. Love that he hums to comfort his teacher.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Frodo's vision is described as clearing up and his mood ligthening after Sam sings his troll song, so I can see that their quietness would have the same effect on Aragorn, though for different reasons. I actually think that *everyone* would benefit from having a hobbit around! I know I would! ;)

Ones ancestors really have little to do with oneself, except for appearances. Still, if Gandalf was hestitant to take the Ring, I can hardly blame Aragorn for not wanting to either. Frodo's stubborness will never allow him to truly give up, but taking away this crutch would remove any temptation he might have in giving in to the Ring.

Aragorn has learned much about hobbits tonight. Thanks for reading! :)

"Then I shall have to keep fighting," Frodo said.

Wonderful!

I just love Aragorn's honesty and Frodo's stubbornness and courage. Those two are unique!

Author Reply: These are two unique souls and they know just how to support each other, without falling into the trap of false hope. Thanks for reading!

Absolutely wonderful! I love the frank conversation between Frodo and Strider!

Author Reply: Thank you DF! These two do not require false promises in order to find hope and strength.

Brave Frodo, just the way I like him. I enjoyed this very much.

Author Reply: Frodo's strength shines through here, and Aragorn certainly learns more about hobbits in this one conversation than he has in all his years of protecting their borders. Thanks for reading!

"Rangers might have been raised and trained to stealth and valiancy, but Hobbits were braver by far."

This is so touching, my dear.
Thank you so much for letting me watch them talking.
Just beautiful.

Love and hugs,
Julchen

Author Reply: Thank you, love! I was lucky to stumble upon these two as they talked. They are such an inspiration to us all. *hugs*

This is absolutely one of the most brilliant pieces I have read in a long long time GF. You had me sniffling. I can't pick out a favourite line but this is close...

Don't be. You are truthful and kind, and that puts my heart at ease," Frodo said. "I would not have my friends wandering alone with a deceitful man, especially one who is capable of deceiving himself. Thank you, Strider, for all that you’ve done for us."

Thank you GF for all your gifts.

Author Reply: Thank you, Liz! I didn't even know what I was going to write when I sat down this morning, but this conversation came to me as I was typing. Aragorn wouldn't make false promises to Frodo, and Frodo would find more hope in that than he would an empty reassurance. Thank you for reading!

Amen! Indeed Amen!

Author Reply: There is a huge difference between hobbits and rangers, but bravery and love are the same for all. Both groups have them in spades, and they will need them for this Quest.

This was marvelous. I am a huge, huge fan of competent!Frodo, so I liked the way you had him carry on a frank, self-assessing conversation with Aragorn even as he's dealing with a paralyzing injury. These two characters bolstered each other without indulging in false hope, which feels very true to Tolkien. Thanks!

Author Reply: Incompetent!Frodo is one of my pet peeves also, so I'm glad I was able to give you a strong and capable Frodo. He's more than able to realize his shortcomings and the possibility that he might not even make it to Rivendell. I think it's very likely they would have had this conversation at some point, and that Aragorn would not make false promises. Thank you for reading!

Aragorn's reflections, and this conversation, really ring true. This is a lovely gift for Claudia (and us).

Author Reply: Thank you, dear! I think this is something they would have spoken of at some point along the Quest. If Aragorn had any doubts about the hobbits' fortitude, he no longer does.
