This was very interesting Clodia and very well written, I love Erestor as a character and it was nice to see him as the lead character in this and walk us through a lot of Silm history. I am going to suppose that since they are planning to stay awhile that they will now start a long awaited family. :) Author Reply: Thank you, I'm very glad you liked this! It was the first fic I ever wrote, and very useful as a way to get the hang of Silm history and lay down the groundwork for my other stories, but maybe a bit dry as a result. They won't have children at Imladris, actually, or at least not their own children (there are probably enough war orphans around to take a few under their wing); the war's still on, but I think by this point they've been together too long to introduce a third party into the mix. Besides, a hundred years or so isn't too long by their standards. A tapestry can be left to its own devices and no harm done, but a child would probably tie them down a lot longer than that. ;)

Since I read the "three balrogs" first, I was glad to find this backstory. Very enjoyable. I have not read the Silmarillion since it came out and I hated it. With the reawakening of a huge Tolkien fandom after the movies, I have been tempted to go back and see if/where I was wrong. Your summary is a good starting point. Thanks again. Author Reply: Again, thank you! The Silmarillion is certainly very dry; that makes it fun for me to write, but not so fun to read, I know. Oh well. It was lovely to wake up to your comments! ^^

Only a couple centuries or so to recreate that hanging? Seems that stay tended to grow in the telling! Heh! Wonderful look at the history of Arda through the eyes of these two. Author Reply: Well, it might have taken longer -- after all, there was a war on... Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the story! Thanks for reading!

Your Melinna and Erestor are mong my favourite LOTR characters, in fact, Melinna beats most original characters in my estimation. ;-) Author Reply: ^^ Thank you so much! I retreat to sleep a happy person...

Fascinating background for Erestor; and a pleasure to meet his wife, the fair and fierce Melinna. I loved the ending; with Melinna thinking of settling down, if only for awhile, and learning to weave; with an eye towards the creation of tapestries - it is not so much a return to traditional female arts as Melinna relaxing enough to think of learning to beautify the bare walls of what she hopes will become a new home - a sign that she can think of somewhere besides lost Doriath as a home. Author Reply: Raksha, your reviews always make me want to sign over my non-existent children in gratitude! I'm glad you liked it and *immensely* grateful to you for picking up the significance of Melinna's tapestry-weaving. As ever, thank you so much! *goes to sleep a happy person*

I was both fascinated and moved by this history of Erestor - so much more interesting than the stuffy Noldor we occasionally see, or the elf who is little more than a foil for Glorfindel. I like to think of him having Melinna there with him - does she run the place until Celebrian arrives? Would this cause problems? I must go and look for other stories of yours about these two! Author Reply: Thank you so much for such a kind review! I'm very glad you liked this story, especially since just about all of my stories feed back into it (or at least to Erestor's life) in some way. I will be archiving my more serious stories here over the next week or so, and *possibly* the less serious ones as well, so there won't be any need to look far. (I'm inclined to think that by the time Elrond married Celebrian, Melinna would probably have got bored of everyday household management -- maybe even before that -- but I haven't written anything directly related to that particular episode yet, so there's always time to change my mind. ^^)

Exquisite overview of early history. And definitely one of my favorite portrayals of Erestor. But why stop with the building of Imladris? Author Reply: I'm glad you liked it! I stopped there because, well, it seemed the natural place to end for the time being -- and I didn't want to pin myself down any more than this when it came to future stories. Thank you for reading!

*blinks in perplexity* The author paraphrases _The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy_??? (Ok, it is the 5. book in the trilogy that is called _Life, the Universe and Everything_) ;-) Quite a mixture... Author Reply: Doesn't everyone paraphrase the Hitchhiker's Guide wherever possible? I hope it was a reasonably coherent mixture, anyway! Thanks for reading. :)
