Author Reply: The whole issue of fore-ordination, and the reality of the influence of prophesy and oaths on the events and participants in Arda is something that I find intriguing from my years of study of Early and Middle English literature. Earendil was prophesied to come to the hope and healing of Middle-earth from before the day that Tuor first saw Idril. Unfortunately, as Galadriel tells Gimli: Love is mingled with grief and Earendil and Elwing experience that in full. | |
