Just read this and I wondered why Glorfindel didn't just take Frodo in front of him on Asfaloth and ride hell for leather for Imlardris, after all it was Frodo they were more interested in and Glorfindel could have sent others to help Aragorn and the Hobbits.

Author Reply: I think that's an excellent question, and one only the Professor can answer! But my own partial answer would have been in Glorfindel's line to Aragorn, "“They must not have you, either, my friend.” Glorfindel is safeguarding both the Ring-bearer and Isildur's heir from the Nazgul. Also, it's very possible he didn't trust himself to be able to fight off the Nine with no help, if he was the only one with Frodo when they attacked.

Fun stuff to ponder, and these are the questions that keep us writing. :)

Yes, the million dollar question--just WHO and WHAT is Aragorn son of Arathorn? And will Frodo manage to hang on one more day at least? The Baggins stubbornness is truly needed here.

Author Reply: I don't know what book-Aragorn thought about hobbits before this journey, but he must have been incredibly impressed with them by the time they reached Rivendell.

Yay! Another new chapter. Another GREAT chapter. I like that you are having Frodo fight so against the influence of the shard. I hated in the movie that they made Frodo so wimpy, falling down all the time, and Arwen saving him. Book-Frodo was much tougher. I guess we'll just have to hope that the REAL Frodo Baggin will put in an appearance in ROTK. Keep up the great work. It's worth the wait for such great chapters!

Excellent, as always.

This chapter had so much good stuff! It had Glorfindel, hobbits at their best - moving on, doing what is needed, Glorfindel, a little foreshadowing knowledge of Aragorn, a cute story from Estel's childhood, and Glorfindel!

The healing skills of Elrond are known, but I admit I was fascinated that Glorfindel seemed to ease and strengthen Frodo as well. How interesting for Frodo, to see Glorfindel as he is on the other side - Caliquendi and having been born anew, the power near to that of a Maiar. I wondered if that power could be directed to healing, or if Glorfindel had training in that area. But, then in RotK, when Aragorn helped Faramir, Eowyn and Merry from the Black Breath, he then went out with the Sons of Elrond and they cured people into the night. Of course, being Elrond's sons, they had likely been taught too.

Sorry, that was OT, just my musings. So, which one would Aragorn have picked to carry the Ring? (I do think Aragorn would have taken Frodo's life had Shadow been about to claim him, rather than leave him to that fate.) I think Merry.

I have this incredible visual in my head of this mighty elf, a mighty ranger and three mighty-mite hobbits brandishing flaming sticks at the Nazgul. What a scene that will be!

“I know I’m… dying,” Frodo whispered. “It’s no use.” He shuddered as a fierce chill shook him. “Please, Estel… tell Bilbo…”

I was so deep into the moment that when Frodo said those words it was like a fist squeezed my heart! This is an excellent story. You said this chapter was one of the longest ones you have ever written, but it flew by for me.

Glorfindel’s story about young Estel and Elladan & Elrohir was just too funny! I think Glorfindel should tell more stories to entertain the hobbits while Frodo recovers in Rivendell. (hint, hint)

Wow, this chapter covered about every kind of emotion I could think of. There was the lighthearted Young-Estel story (that I thoroughly enjoyed ... what would I give to see a green Elladan ... and a partially green Aragorn), but also the extremely dark topics of the discussion between Aragorn and Glorfindel. I shudder to think both of what Aragorn would have to do in order to ultimately safe Frodo from the shadow-world and what they are about to face once they reach the Ford of the Bruinen.

I like the depth you have achieved in this tale. Your characters grow more three-dimensional with each new story. And you are keeping a string of tension running through it too.
