| It is what I see him realizing long ago--that he must give himself with the Ring to see it destroyed--but I doubt then either Gollum or Sam would have survived him, or not for long! Author Reply: Uh. What do you mean with the second part of your review? And yes, there is a kind of underlying desperation in Frodo's thoughts about the Ring, especially during the quest of the Fellowship and his own quest with Sam in Mordor. I interpretted it similarly, and this snippet was born out of it...
