Glad to see that Hildifons is helping to alter hobbits' views on the Rangers - and Archer only needed to smile to help in that regard. Those sausage-filled apples sound delicious! Author Reply: Well, not only the smile, but also the way he helped! They are quite delicious! I usually serve them with a baked sweet potato and a green salad and some homemade rye bread.

my grin about split my face to see another Trotter story! and a recipe to boot! That one I've gotta try, made my mouth water. I look forward to the rest of the tale as it grows. and more recipes, I hope.... Author Reply: Yes, I've always intended to show more of Trotter's adventures than what appeared in his journal, so it was fun to start this! I love recipe fics! I'm sure that as much as Trotter likes cooking, some more of them will be recipe fics! It's always good to hear from you!

Excellent! Indeed these proved true friends to the old lady and her family. Glad Jon will recover relatively quickly, and that they now have help. And the apples sound yummy! Author Reply: Yes, they are true friends-- I think once a hobbit has decided you are a friend, you'll be one ever after! Now that he's assured things won't fall apart while he's laid up, I think he will be able to get the rest he needs to recover. The apples are indeed yummy! They make an excellent entree-- the last time I made them, I used maple-flavored breakfast sausage to make the stuffing, and served them with homemade rye bread, vegetable soup, and salad made with lettuce straight from the garden.

Yay! Trotter is back! You know, I'll envy you for the rest of my life for having found such an excellent way to re-introduce him to the Ardaverse. Author Reply: *grin* Thank you! Yes, he's back. I always intended to tell a few more tales about him. As I said when I wrote the first story, I'd always been fascinated by the idea of a "Ranger hobbit", so it was just a matter of finding a convenient person on the Family Tree! Hildifons filled the bill perfectly!

A sweet story, glad at least a few people know now the Rangers are good people, and it was nice to see Trotter again. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I always like to think there was a handful of people who were able to see past the gossip and suspicion to the true nature of the Rangers!

She turned a gimlet eye on Archer, who smiled at her. His smile quite transformed his dour face, and she responded in kind. Somehow this reminds me of Strider ;-) It seems that not only the common folk was wary of the rangers. It also worked the other way around. They always kept some distance to each other. It needed a ranger-HOBBIT to change things - and cook a fine meal :-) Author Reply: Yes, I think that it did need a hobbit. Not merely a hobbit, but a Took with a full share of the Tookish charm and friendliness. Trotter would see no reason why his friend Mistress Polly and her family should not also be friends with his friends the Rangers, and his postitive attitude would be infectious! And of course Trotter would love to cook a fine meal whenever he'd get the chance!

I really enjoyed this. I started to read it over at the ShireKitchen site but decided to read here instead. I really needed to read something happy just now and this fit the bill. I like how the opinion of the Rangers that Miss Polly had was changed by their visit. I enjoyed the way Trotter and Archer set about helping Miss Polly with everything. Lovely story. Good to see Trotter again. Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that it took you to a happy place! ((hugs)) I think that from time to time some of the folks they helped got a chance to see the "true" Rangers shine through. I'd always intended to come back to Trotter-- lots of things happened to him that didn't get into the original story!

Good to see more of Trotter -- and to see the Rangers get a bit of respect. And the recipe sounds yummy. Author Reply: I'm glad you liked seeing Trotter again-- and where Trotter goes, he'll see that the Rangers get respect. The recipe is quite good; I've made it a few times. Sometimes I use homemade sausage made from fresh ground pork or turkey and fresh herbs, but the last time I made it using maple-flavored breakfast sausage. Yummy!
