This treads on questions in Christianity; specifically why, if God in omnipotent and all powerful, he allowed sin and all it's grief into the world. Most appropriate considering the Christian origin of much of Tolkein's inspiration.

Author Reply: Thank you! I try to be very subtle in any hints of Christianity (as was Tolkien's own practice) in my stories. He tried to avoid anything overt or allegorical! as Arda was a pre-Christian world, and so do I, but in this story, which takes place in the West I am a bit moe willing to explore such questions than in those which take place East of the Sundering Sea.

I hope to get back to this story very soon.

Of course they were included! =) Good for Gandalf; I love his answer!

Kaylee

Author Reply: Well, yes, of course they would be. But Frodo has been trying to be logical with insufficient information-- naturally he got hold of the wrong end of the stick. Gandalf would quickly set him straight.

Ah, good, it looks like Gandalf is going to give him some answers. I really hope he can give Frodo his peace of mind back.

Author Reply: He will certainly try.

Now I'm imagining a new As Seen on TV product: Instant Hobbit! Always available for quick fixes whenever your Music goes awry!

And that makes me think of a theory within a different and obscurer fic that I've read that suggests that Gandalf, during the music, sang of the insignificant things and somehow that helped translate to hobbits and the Shire.

Also--the idea that what makes LotR so singularly appealing is that it is the intersection of hobbits and these ancient myths, because the Silm was so bleak on its own and hobbits were really an afterthought--albeit a blessed one--in Tolkien's own mind!

So you can see this has me thinking a lot tonight!

And it looks as if Frodo will have more food for thought as well. :) Looking forward to your next installment of this.

Author Reply: LOL! Actually, I wouldn't mind having an Instant Hobbit for myself...

Ooh! I'd love to read that one! If you remember where it is or who wrote it, let me know! I like that idea!

I know. Dana and I often felt Turin would not have been nearly so angsty and emo if he'd had a hobbit for a friend.

Frodo's been thinking a lot. He gets to explain himself soon.

Well, of COURSE they were included in the Great Music--but were a leitmotif of their own, a special glory of comfortable but shining notes that few noted at the time....

Silly lad!

Love this!

Author Reply: Yes, they were! But really, it's not so much silliness on Frodo's part as a lack of certain knowledge. He does have logic on his side, so far as he knows...

Gandalf will help to set him straight.

Frodo has always taken solace in his rambles, hasn't he? But when one lacks the answers he needs, even the peaceful woods of the Blessed Realm can only do so much. Glad that he and Gandalf are finally having this much needed discussion. This should be very interesting! *waits impatiently*

Author Reply: Yes-- a ramble can only help so much. But Gandalf is ready to talk.

At last, Frodo will get some of his questions answered. I wish Gandalf good luck with that. : )

Author Reply: Yes, he will get at least some of them answered, and hopefully be put on the right track to answer some of the others himself.

Yes, I would imagine this is not the kind of question that can be answered by reading a book. Now I'm curious as to what Gandalf has to tell!

Author Reply: No, it's not one to be answered from a book. But if anyone can answer it for Frodo, Gandalf can.

I just love this story! I am at once chomping at the bit to hear more and the same time enjoying how drawn out it is. This is going to get very interesting.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Well, of course, it is drawn out by necessity, when every chapter is no more than 300 words! It will take me longer to come to the point, I think! 8-)

Wow! What an interesting turn of events!

I very much liked Gandalf's analysis of Frodo's character. What will he conclude, I wonder!

On the other hand, I can understand what troubles Frodo. It's a very important question he ponders. And it's crucial to his healing, I think.

So, what will be Gandalf's answer? I'm curious to find out more!

Author Reply: It's a very important question he ponders.

Yes, it is, and it is quite bound up in Frodo's healing, and in his learning his and his people's place in the world.
