| Frodo's right, the Ainulindalë doesn't say anything about hobbits. No wonder he was wondering if they were made out of necessity. And he's certainly putting the facts in a way that things look suspicious. Author Reply: Well, of course, story-externally, JRRT had not even thought them up yet. And a story-internal examination of the history of the Third Age certainly looks suspcious, doesn't it? And yet,knowing that Eru had all of the Music in mind from the beginning, I cannot imagine that such delightful creatures as hobbits would be left out! | |

| Logical, yes, but the workings of the world can't be reduced to mere logic--otherwise we'd all be Spocks! Looking forward to the conclusion of all this. Author Reply: No, it can't. But the search for answers has to start somewhere and in the absence of direct revelation, logic seems one way to start. Unfortunately, it can never give the whole answer. | |

| I wonder if Frodo will spot that the Ents are not mentioned in those histories, either? This is really intriguing! Author Reply: So far the Ents have not come up in the conversation. Neither Frodo nor Gandalf seem interested in talking about them. | |

| Ah yes, Frodo's thoughts would run in his direction, given his life so far. If he truly was meant to find the Ring, was he then also meant to be alone so that he would be free to carry the Ring, and what exactly does *that* imply? Can't wait for Gandalf's response! Author Reply: Yes-- once you wrap your mind around the idea that Someone had a hand in your Destiny, you begin to wonder if everything that ever happened to you-- especially the bad things-- were not some form of manipulation. | |

| Another delightful chapter! I am glad Frodo is inching his way to finding out how special and beloved hobbits in general, and he himself, are to the One. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: It's a gradual process. Frodo is thoughtful and intelligent, and he has a lot to work through. But he will eventually be able to find true joy. | |

| It *is* logical! And it's understandable that a hobbit like Frodo comes to such a conclusion. But I can't believe it's true! So, what will Gandalf's answer be? Author Reply: It's very understandable, and it *IS* a logical conclusion to come to after a study of the Third Age. If you knew nothing more about than the bare facts, it would certainly seem reasonale. | |

| Just the thought of predestination is proving such a bitter pill for Frodo to swallow, apparently! Now, to hear Gandalf's side of the story! Author Reply: It's a bitter pill for a lot of people who don't really understand the concept. And I think, it would be difficult to understand for one who was raised in a society that did not espouse any religious beliefs. | |
