| I hope you will forgive another note here but I feel that this sentence, "But yes, Melian was not the only one of my race to wed with one of the Children," might be slightly off. The Maiar are not a "race" of course, but were spirits of a higher order than that word implies. "People" could work here in the context of a conversation with someone as learned as Elrond, but even that is not quite right. Sorry, I should've mentioned I'm a teacher and have trouble enjoying work without making notes. | |

| Hmm. Wonder if there's any chance that Sam shares any of that unique lineage! =) And I suspect that it's not only Frodo who could use some mothering. Sam lost his mother, too. | Hehe, poor Elrond! And he thought he'd be something unique! Author Reply: Well, of course, he still is the only living son of a star. And he is still the only descendant of Maia+Elf. But he's now finding that there are quite a few Maia+Hobbit descendants running around. It has to be a bit disconcerting! ;-) Author Reply: I didn't mean *only* descendants-- HIS descendants and Elros' are still around, but the principal's the same. | |

| *grin* Oh yes, that has to be quite a shock for Elrond. Now the peredhil aren't that unique any longer - that will take some getting used to! Author Reply: LOL! Not even *remotely* unique when it comes to a heritage from the Maiar! (Though still in regards to the Elven part of his heritage!) I had huge fun with this scene! | |

| And knowing Gandalf, he is most smug about being able to share this news now and amazing Elrond, and most humble about having been in the know. Elrond must be shaking his head in shock--and with a certain sense of deja vu! Heh! What news? Author Reply: Oh yes, Gandalf is quite smug here. And yes, he's quite shocked. Imagine, he's gone through two Ages of the world thinking that his family are all quite special due to their descent from Melian and now he learns that nearly all hobbits are descended from another Maia! | An eye opener indeed! *We* always knew there was something special about hobbits, but this is unexpected to say the least. I enjoyed Elrond's speechlessness as much as Gandalf did. Author Reply: Of course we did, LOL! It's not often that Elrond can be surprised. *grin* | |
