I really like your characterization of Gandalf and your portrayal of what Gandalf is thinking.. i find it really believable and really like the part where you include the feature of Frodo's Inner light... not many writers focus upon Gandalf and i'm glad that you included the first chapter to incorporate what he may be feeling in terms of thinking about Frodo and Sam. Also very cool in all chapters is the fact that you include quotes from the book =) Very nice idea~ Author Reply: I always got irritated when people would blame Gandalf for Frodo's predicament. Yes, Gandalf is to blame (in part) for Weathertop, because he sent Frodo away for his own good. But Mordor? People seem to forget that Frodo stood up and said "I will take the Ring to Mordor." Frodo WAS NOT elected by the Council. Then Elrond said "(The Ring) is a heavy burden. So heavy that none could lay it on another. I do not lay it on you." The Frodo's Light mentioning is my favorite part, I've re-read that part over and over again trying to understand it. That's where Gandalf's thought came from, the one that said "he didn't pretend to understand all the weapons of the enemy, morgul blades least of all." I have NO idea why something so evil left a mark of Light on him!

Oh, dear all Gandalf's little rememberances and Frodo is going to at the Black Gate you say? Oh, dear, then where is the Ring? I hope to read more soon! Author Reply: "Where is the Ring?" you ask. Well dear Hai, just think for a second. Where was it in the book, when Frodo was a prisoner? Just remember, when reading this and future chapters, that I'm TRYING to follow the books as closely as possible - not that I won't have to make SOME changes, but - oh you'll see. I won't give you any more hints. I already told you a mite to much already!

You have set the scene very well. I look forward to seeing where this story goes. I can cope with any amount of angst as long as it has a happy ending !!! Helen/shireling Author Reply: I'm glad you can handle the angst, because I assure you there is plenty more to come.
