Trust Melkor to utter promises he never intends to honor, and to underestimate his opponents. And that he would be angry at the Sea for ignoring him is so true to his nature. What a gloomy picture you paint in this chapter, Fiondil! So this is how Acairis ended up. As Melkor himself would, soon. That's a really sad thing. Two beings, beautiful beyond any imagination to end up like this...Moreover, as far as I can tell, there is no hope of redemtion for either of them in canon. I truly hope to be wrong on this, but.... "Elder Fool", indeed! Unfortunately, Melkor is right this time, as unpleasant it's for me to admit. I usually prefer to take out my anger on Námo. "grin" Not that it was really an idyllic place, even without Melkor and his machinations, but to see them about to wreak havoc on such beautiful lands, it's unsettling, to the least. And...maybe, just maybe, I'm allowing myself to think that regardless of the Valar's stupidities (which were many), perhaps it would have been worth to put up with all in order for Melkor and Ungoliant to be thwarted from achieving their goal: the destruction of Valinor. Which they did accomplish, in my opinion. And, what is with Ungoliant and her hunger for gems, I wonder? Her daughter wasn't quite so picky, as far as I remember... Meldonya, Finally I've been able to take a break from my math studies and get caught up on this phenomenally brilliant story. I'll go back later on and review each chapter but the culmination of those youve posted so far have me feeling emotionally exhausted. I am particularly worried for Ingalaurë and Ingwion (but that may be due to the fact I, too, am a twin). Like others have said, I really like the connection to yuor Wars of the Valar by having Ungoliantë be the current form of Acairis. It's incedibly appropriate and makes her--well, not sympathetic exactly--but something more than a Halloween horror. And Melkor... it seems fitting that he loses his ability to effortlessly change his state just as he puts his foulest plan into action. Bravissimo! Please be well and stay warm and safe. You are in my thoiughts and prayers. Edlyn Author Reply: Hi Edlyn! I'm so glad you've been reading and enjoying this tale. I look forward to reading more detailed reviews of individual chapters as you get to them. I wanted to give Ungolantë more depth than just your random villain, and I always knew, even as I was writing Wars of the Valar that Acairis would become Ungolantë. It just seemed like a logical thing and it allowed me to bring in the "Acairis-character" at times, so the reader could see just how far she's fallen. And Tolkien specifically states that it was at this very moment in confronting Ungolantë that he lost his ability to change his state forever, so it's not something I made up for the sake of the story. grin Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to leave this review. So Acairis is Ungoliant? That's a believable fall, actually. Interesting tie to The Wars of the Valar. Author Reply: Hi Aiwen. Well, in my universe she is. grin I know many readers of "Wars of the Valar" wondered at Acairis' fate and I thought it appropriate that a former Maia in the service of Vairë would want to weave her own webs and obviously becoming Ungoliantë seemed a logical step. I'm with Sunny on this one, someone needs to do something nice for Eonwe, he is going to be very,very busy sometime soon. Good job he is a Maia and will not get writers cramp! Are you sure that there is not some little elfling out there who is taking oath to one of his friends to be the bestest warrior ever? Acairis, she survived after all. She was so close to repent, well maybe not, but she regreted her coise a little bit. So, it has started. Author Reply: Yes, she did, Fantasia, and unfortunately she had fallen too far to reject what she had become and so she is trapped. And yes, it has started. My reviews have been sorely lacking, Atto...I'm sorry :( I have read every chapter, and loved it very much...they've made me shiver, scream, and laugh by turns, hopefully in all the right places. grin And here we see Melkor. And...ha, I was right, I was right! Ungoliant is Acairis, I thought so, I knew it! Wonderfully woven (pun intended :P) and well crafted: my favorite line of Melkor's may surprise you though, lol... Well, not a speaking line, but it's a thought of his (although what he said just before it was so very Melkor-ish) "And then he spat at the waters, though he knew it was a foolish, indeed vain, gesture on his part. The Sea did not care and pretty much ignored him and he so hated being ignored." ...Of course the Sea would not care. Though I've not any doubt that Ulmo, Osse and Uinen will care very much, LOL! Very nicely woven into your story. Are you sure you or your Muse aren't part spider? So that's who Ungoliante was before, Tolkien's version of a Black Widow! Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Thanks, I'm glad you liked how I've woven "Wars of the Valar" into this story, if only slightly. It made writing Ungoliantë far more interesting than it would have been otherwise.

So we see Acairis again. I had sort of wondered if she had taken a swan-dive into one of Varda's black holes, since she seemed to be so fascinated by them. But evidently not - she has turned herself into a Maiarin version of one instead! And Eönwë must be rather depressed these days, since I think he is kept rather busy writing in the one of his books that he hates. And soon the book for the Children will be seeing a lot of use... :-( Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Yes, Acairis is back and with a vengeance. evil grin I thought it would be fun to bring her in and tie this story to "Wars of the Valar", if only slightly.
