In Darkness Bound  by Fiondil 5 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 55 on 3/24/2011
Considering that there is no means for fast transit in Arda at the time unless one is able to discorporate, I suspect that their belief Ingwe is too long away is a bit precipitous. Not that Ingoldo wouldn't do his best to take advantage of his brother's absence, no long how short it might be. They are wise to be wary of his plans.

Author Reply: Hi Larner. I think they are just upset that Ingwë isn't there in Vanyamar where he belongs and feel that his going to Tirion, even on the behest of the Valar, is not a smart move with Ingoldo loose. Also, from Valmar, he would only be a half-day's travel away, whereas by going to Tirion, even if he stays only for a couple of days, means he gone an additional two weeks and with Ingoldo that's two weeks too long. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

"Then Ingwë will be sorely disappointed. Fëanáro would no more give him his fealty than I would... kiss Melkor." Ingoldo should have stop at "than I would", because we all know he will not give his fealty to anyone.

It will be interesting to see how the Valar provide food for the Elves. A prolonged darkness would be devastating.

Author Reply: I think he should have, too, Tari, and I think a few people knew exactly what he meant. I believe the Valar are making contingency plans to ensure no one starves. I think they discuss it in an upcoming chapter but I don't remember off-hand which one. At any rate, I know the question is addressed at one point. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

I have a proposal, send domeone to spy Ingoldo's activities.

Author Reply: Perhaps Valandur has already thought of it, Fantasia. *grin* We'll have to wait and see.

I'm with Ingalure, come home Ingwe or you may find yourself ousted by Ingoldo and his cronies, I'm sure he has some! Let Feanaro and Nolofinwe sort themselves out, I someehow can not see Feanaro bending his knee to Ingwe!
Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Yes, it would be better if Ingwë were back in Vanyamar. Unfortunately, that's not the case and things must play out as they will, as Námo is so fond of saying. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

I am reading this chapter while hearing of the ever-increasing death toll from the Japanese earthquake this morning. It has resonance for me in both of the worlds - Tolkien's and real life. Ascertaining the damage of the people and possible emergency measures that may need to be taken is always the first priority in times of disaster, and the destruction of the Trees was certainly that. Ingoldo is completely untrustworthy and worries me, especially him leaving the council so quickly pulling his wife along with him. Ingwe needs to return and return quickly or he will have difficulty resuming his throne, no matter how much Ellendis and Ingalure have worked to keep it open for him.

Author Reply: Hi Erulisse. Yes, it does make one think when a natural disaster happens and the death of the Trees certainly would be just that. As to what will happen with Ingoldo and all, that remains to be seen. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.
