| I really enjoyed reading your version of Aragorn and Faramir playing truant, and enjoying a glorious summer day. They both deserve the respite after working so hard as they must have done during the first days of Aragorn's reign. Author Reply: I'm sure they had, or found, good secretaries and assistants; but being the type of men they were, Faramir and Aragorn would have wanted to, and tried to, do some of the paperwork/sorting themselves, or at least gauge what needed most to be sorted (which in itself could be quite a chore when dealing with a thousand years of laws and regulations)... | I always enjoy stories of Aragorn and Faramir deciding to toss duty aside for a bit of fun... it's such a fun thing to watch and imagine, and always feels like a reward for years of hardship. I like your version, with a sneezing Aragorn with dust in his hair, and a sympathetic Faramir more than willing to not only assist but willingly participate in the King's plan to play hookey. :) Author Reply: Thanks, Cairistiona; Faramir probably had some dust in his hair too, but failed to notice it until later. Poor Aragorn had had just about enough of trying to personally tackle the scrolls of ancient laws and amendments, at least that day. And I think Faramir very much wants to be a help to his King (and he was also delighted to have a good excuse to go hang out with Aragorn rather than stay in Gondor's legal archives and sort through centuries of precedent). My personal title for earlier drafts of this story was Playing Hooky, LOL. | |

| Yes, the two of them do indeed need the day off! Love Arwen's characterization of the time her new husband is able to spend with her! Author Reply: The sheer amount of stuff not involving running/riding/fighting that Aragorn will have to accomplish as King of Gondor and Arnor, especially in the first year, must have been a bit overwhelming to the new king, however well prepared he was. And it was also the beginning of his marriage. Arwen would have been lucky to see her bridegroom at all during the day; while she was also adjusting to a new life. I imagine that they both are patient people, and that helped...And I think Faramir (who also had a passel of new responsibilities) would have been very helpful in integrating Aragorn into the fabric of Gondor (which Aragorn had known from the standpoint of a foreign-born general some 40 years ago, not as King) in those early years. But sometimes the guys would have had to just leave the paperwork and get out and breathe! Thanx for the review! | |

| it was his duty and honor to look to his king’s needs, when possible. This need, for freedom and sunshine and a wife’s comfort, could and would be met! | A truly lovely little tale. I am so glad they had the good sense to take a break themselves. The early days of Aragorn's reign had to be such a time of change, hard work, etc. Thank you Author Reply: I would think that Aragorn and Faramir would be tremendously busy during the first year of the King's reign - a thousand years of Stewards' rule couldn't be forgotten or completely set aside in terms of custom and law, and a new, Sauron-free Age was dawning. And I think that while King and Steward would have engaged competent clerical/legal help to gather the precedents of the past, they would have wanted to examine and peruse as much as they personally could.
