A most interesting take on that decision, that only the oldest were chosen for what was likely to turn out a last stand--and Forlong himself did not return to his home. Author Reply: I always thought it was interesting that Forlong, not Denethor, determined how many troops his fief sent to Minas Tirith. Clearly, Denethor did not have the power to demand a certain number. (Which is surprising because, in medieval Europe, the rights and duties of lord and vassal were often spelled out in great detail.) Thanks for commenting! | |
