I have to laugh. I took so long to read this I forgot the prologue and was startled to start reading about Rawien relating this to Elrond and Glorfindel. I went back and checked the prologue to get up to speed. Age takes away your memory to a disturbing degree. Fate, chance and circumstance rule the way of all lives whether mortal or immortal. I loved the thought of Legolas being a child of the realm belonging to all who rescued him. I am sure with the way of his birth and the circumstances of his rescue all elves in Mirkwood felt a special interest in him. It is so good that the events he had to endure at such a young age did not harden into fear and suspicion but made him more flexible to new people and events than the ordinary silvan elf. So Legolas has fulfilled his destiny and they will await him at home. He just has to fulfill his promise to Aragorn and then he too can go to elvenhome. That actually sent a shiver up my spine when I read it. Something about the elves leaving gets me every time. One more chapter to go and it is over. SOB | |
