Poor Arafinwe, his situation is finally getting to him. So, Nienna's way of teaching him is to let him grow up, to have him be responsible for himself. No more commands, no more servants. He has to feed and clothe himself without having someone telling him what to do or having someone do it for him. That will be quite an experience for this elf. Kind of like young adults moving out from their parents home. Interesting... An experience he can use when he ever gets king. Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Yes, it is finally getting to him. And I think Nienna's method is the right way to go. As you say, he needs to grow up, to learn to be responsible for himself before he is ready to be responsible for an entire nation. It's much like what will happen to the Reborn. Even Finrod, though a prince, will not have anyone but himself to do for him and he will be learning skills, such as horseshoeing, that he normally would never have learned. Arafinwë needs to learn self-sufficiency before he can ever govern the Noldor. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Asking for help is the first step toward finding it, or recognising it when it comes. He does well enough now, I think. Now, to keep building on the new capabilities and confidence, and to break through that loathed skewed self-image. Author Reply: Very true, Larner. We'll see how he fares over the next few chapters. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Oh, *Atto*...I want to cuddle Arafinwe. So, so much. I'm sure Nienna will help him, and he'll come to understand what he needs to learn. Learning to cook isn't a bad idea, either. I could probably use some of those recipes myself, lol. Happy Independence Day, by the way...and I woke up to reading about my favourite thrall of the Valar learning to be independent. Appropriate? Hmm. *huggles Arafinwe some more* I can't wait for Friday, to see what Arafinwe gets up to next! He'll fare much better with Nienna, as she treats him like an Elf, not a thing. A guess for how the cottage gets put on fire: Arafinwe forgets to bank the coals? (Somehow I'm thinking it's an accident, not something Arafinwe did in a fit of temper, though that doesn't wholly exclude accidents, look at Matanamir, poor Maia. Is he going to be all right? Will Arafinwe apologise?) Tye-melin, Kaylee Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. I'm sure Arafinwë would welcome a cuddle right about now. *grin* As for how the cottage gets put on fire, we will see that in the next chapter. And eventually Arafinwë and Mánatamir will meet again. Happy Independence Day, to you, as well. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

I think Arafinwe is starting to ask the right question, he needs to find himself, but he will need help. I find I like the idea of Arafinwe 'doing' for himself, it will give him a sense of selfworth and a feeling of responsibility. I am looking forward to the sewing lessons, they should be fun! One thing I wanted to mention about your stories, I have read so many stories where people eat and drink and bathe but never seem to need to take a pee, at least your elves have working kidneys! Happy Fourth of July, Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Hopefully 'doing' for himself will indeed give him a sense of self-worth, which is what he doesn't have at the moment. And I always thought it odd that in all those adventure stories(and movies), NO ONE ever had to "go baffoom". LOL! It's a natural function of all of us incarnates, after all. Glad you enjoyed this story. Thanks for reading and reviewing and Happy Fourth of July to you, as well.

now I think he´s getting around. Hopefully he is finally grasping what they want to teach him. Self-awareness is the first step to improvement. Poor elf, but somehow I cannot really feel pity. He has brought this upon himself but hopefully he´s now getting in the right direction. It´s about time. The phrase "alone" and "on your own" made me think. Thank you for another gripping chapter. Lai Author Reply: Hopefully so, Lai. Self-awareness is indeed the first step to improvement. And I'm glad that the phrases "alone" and "on your own" and how they are not the same has made you think. People don't often understand the difference. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

*sniffle* That is so heartbreaking... and yet hopeful. The first step to helping oneself is the realization that you need help. The first step to freedom is the realization that you don't want to be a slave. An excellent chapter, Fiondil, and one I've been waiting to read. I liked Nienna's differentiation between being alone and being on one's own. Arafinwe will never become the Noldoran if he can't come to it on his own. They could dress him in robes, put the crown on his head, sit him on the throne in Tirion, but until he internalizes what it is to be the king that his people need him to be, it is all just empty show. Remembering Glorfindel's time at the cottage, I look forward to seeing how Arafinwe handles the solitude and the self-responsibility he is facing over the next few months. The road is long, but he has finally--even if he doesn't realize it--taken the first important step out of the door. (BTW, I'd sure like to have Tuitalion to come teach me how to cook better! *grin*) Well done! Author Reply: Hi Rhyselle. It is indeed heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. And you are correct that Arafinwë can never become Noldóran until he can come to it on his own. We'll see how things work out for him in the next chapter. (And if I ever see Tiutalion I'll send him to you. *grin*) Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.
