Exhausted as he was, it's no wonder it was hard to escape the Rings allurements. Well done.

Author Reply: Thanks, Est! Honestly, I don't think most other Men would have been able to hold off as long as he did.

Hi, Ainu Laire,
I just read all of your ficlets and thought them excellent. I enjoyed them very much.
My only comment is the fanon vs canon bit about Halbarad and cousins. By the very nature of relationships, he HAS to be a cousin, since he's not an uncle (or aunt!), nor parent, sibling or offspring of Aragorn. All that's left is cousins, of various degrees. You have him as a first cousin, which is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility, but he could be a 2nd/3rd/etc cousin - which still counts as both kinsman and cousin. Ask a hobbit . Most modern USA families don't count cousins beyond 1st cousins; my family knows 2nd/3rd, once removed, etc, even though we are not hobbits. So referring to Halbarad as a cousin is probably just as accurate as kinsman, and even canonical.
That said, your stories are very good & I wouldn't worry about conflating cousins with kinsmen.
Thanks for writing & keep it up.

Author Reply: Ah, thank you, Rick!

Who is to say Halbarad is not an uncle? Gilraen could have had brothers :) I don't believe canon ever stated she was an only child. He could even be a great-uncle through being a brother of Ivorwen or Dirhael! XD Though, I do agree, the most likely explanation is cousin, but since there is nothing written in stone except for kinsman, I figure it's best to play it safe.

Thank you, though, for your input! It is interesting to think about (and I think of my own cousins' kids as 'cousins' too, not 'cousins once removed', hehe).

Aw, how much do I love seeing Glorfindel taking care of a weary and worried Aragorn! Excellent and very plausible gapfiller... I hope you keep at the prompts. :)

Author Reply: I'll certainly work on some from time to time, in between my other writing projects. Thanks for the review ^^

"Not yet deep!" the elf reassured the man. "Not yet deep, for you still realize its deadly power."

That's the perfect response, and a very nice scene.

It's great to see a ficlet from you!

Author Reply: Thanks, shirebound!

I'm glad to finally have the muses working again! They've been incredibly active these past six or so months, so I thought I should produce something while I'm working on my novel-length story on the side.

Oh, yes--exhaustion and stress It could and would work with, not to mention long-held frustration.

Excellent!

Author Reply: Yea, It was a most cruel and unusally manipulative piece of jewellery. I imagine it affected all of the Fellowship somehow before it was taken away.

Lovely little ficlet! :) I like how you describe the influence of the Ring.

Author Reply: Nasty thing, that Ring thing, ain't it? TY!
