Oh, boy! Ingwion is really in a bad shape. I don't think he can be left alone in the foreseeable future.

I loved Eonwe showing up to record the oath. they all, especially Ingoldo, needed a reminder that oaths are heard and they are accountable for them.

I can't stand Ingoldo. Luckily, I'm not in Ingwe's shoes. I would have a hard time being as civil as Ingwe is.

Author Reply: He is indeed, obsidianj. I don't think they will leave Ingwion alone for some time to come. Glad you liked Eonwe showing up. It was a very good visual reminder for them all. And Ingwe is the High King and unfortunately has no choice but to act civil.

Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Ah! Arrangements finally made, poor Ingwion having to be put out in order to keep him from becoming a kinslayer also, and a pearl of a cook seeing all fed and strengthened for what is to come. So, now WE all know who it is who takes over the kitchen during the final preparations for the wedding! Heh!

Author Reply: Well, as to that, I'm not saying either yea or nay, but we'll find out the truth soon enough, Larner. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I appreciate it very much.

Atto,

I'm still reeling a bit from this chapter and the next one. They're both very well-written, but very sad, and I ache for Ingwi, not to mention the rest of the family...and the Vanyar. "The rest of the family" pointedly excluding a certain Ratty and his wife (but not son), of course. (Ratty is a good name for that piece of work!)

So. Is Ratty going to get in trouble then? One would think so, even hope so. The one thing that lightened my mood a bit was the whole "bossy Maia" thing. I am still convinced Marilla & Marillien are one and the same, you know.

Tye-melin, Atto. Sorry for the delay.

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Well, it is very sad and it's very hard, but the humor inserted within just shows that life does indeed go on: people still have to eat, etc. As for Rat... er...Ingoldo, we will see what happens to him eventually. Thanks for reading and reveiwng. I hope you're feeling better. Tye-melin.

I had to give myself a bit of space before commenting on this chapter.

Needless to say, I have fallen in love with the twins. The death of one, though foreshadowed throughout the previous chapters, was difficult to read. The grief of the remaining twin still hangs heavy over me. Kudos for great writing.

However, common law and those laws established more recently, consider Ingil's death a felony murder. And makes any participant in such a felony criminally liable for any deaths that occur during or in furtherance of that felony. The kidnapping makes this a felony murder.

Also, this was regicide. If Ingwe died during his own kidnapping and if Ingwion died during this time, Ingil would be king. Therefore, his death would be considered a form of regicide. An even more serious crime than felony murder.

Now - we, of course, have the odd fact that Ingil will return, physically, from Mandos sometime in the future.

Does that mean that Ingoldo should still not suffer death for the murder of Ingil? He too will enter Mandos' gates and return in time.

I know what you do to Ingoldo in Elf Interrupted, but I don't agree. You, however, are the author.... I must bow to the author's decision, but I don't agree.

Author Reply: Hello, Agape. It looks as if you caught up. *grin* You are, of course, free to disagree with how I've written certain things and I would be very surprised if everyone who read my stories did indeed agree with them (and me). That being said, I think you are missing the point here. You are speaking of laws that apply to us humans, or rather to our particular society (other societies would have different responses to these 'crimes'). But these are Elves, and they are not bound by our laws. And more importantly, these are Elves of Aman who have never (as far as we know) had to formulate laws about felony murder and regicide (and our own laws on these matters have been developing over the last 6000 years if you want to be anthropologically correct about it). This is terra incognita for these people, and, keeping in mind that these are indeed Elves and not humans, their own mindset and their responses with regards to all this will be totally different from ours, perhaps, even alien from our point of view. They barely have the vocabulary in which to discuss these matters yet.

How Ingwë resolves this will, of course, be shown in later chapters. Once Ingalaurë's funeral is done with there are only two other things which need to be dealt with before we can bring this story to a close: Ingoldo's trial and Arafinwë's coronation.

Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I really appreciate you doing so.

I cannot understand why everyone is so understanding with Ingoldo. He has caused so much trouble and grief and anger and sorrow and done so with full conscience. Ingwe should not trust him one bit. I hope he will not get dissapointed again. The reactions of Arafinwe and Ingwe on Eonwe´s announcement over the recorded oaths were amusing. Don´t make to many vows indeed! Thank you for another grieving but so good chapter. Lai

Author Reply: Hi Lai. It's not that everyone is understanding of Ingoldo, is that these people are operating from a custom of civility and a code of chivalry that our world has pretty much lost. Ingwë does not in fact trust his brother and we will see to what extent he does not in the next chapter. I thought it was amusing with everyone (not just Ingoldo) doing a quick examination of conscience at Eönwë's pronouncement. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Well now we know part of the reason that Ratty is afraid if Ingwion!

Oh, but poor Ingwion, it will be a very long time before he recovers.

Ingwe seems to be getting things arranged with Valandurs help, hopefully Ratty will behave himself, he does seem to be afraid of the Maia, Eonwe at least, I personally would not trust him as far as I could throw him!

Well now to eat Marillien's, no doubt, exellant meal and get back to Vanyamar and find out what Valandur has arranged.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Yes, we know part of the reason for Ingoldo fearing Ingwion and we will see other reasons for that fear in subsequent chapters. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

It is so sad, such a sorry business. There is nothing saddest as the arranging of a funeral, it is heartbreaking.
And IMO, Ingwe is too nice with Ingoldo. We know that he didn't learn at the end. At least, we know that he lived in fear of Ingwon for a long time, that is good.
Poor Ingwon, he is really in bad shape.

Author Reply: It is indeed a sorry business, Fantasia, especially Ingwion. And if Ingwë is being nice to Ingoldo, that's Ingwë, andhe refuses to stoop to Ingoldo's level. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Yes, Ingwion is definitely a mental basket case right now. And we also know that the road to healing is going to be a long one. And no wonder he is having amnesia about Ingalaurë's death - he has been very deeply traumatized, but he will need to remember it in order to function.
One part of him certainly knows, though - or else he wouldn't have had that kind of reaction to the mere mention of Ingoldo's name. And that reaction also gives notice that Ingoldo and Ingwion need to be kept apart, lest Ingwion tries to kill his uncle. I wonder if perhaps that has been slightly less than successful - in IE it is clearly stated that Ingoldo fears Ingwion. Ingwion did attack his uncle when his brother died, and that plus perhaps one or two additional berserker attacks qould certainly account for his fear.

The setting between the "just a chat" between Ingwë and Ingodo certainly looks fairly trial-like - I suspect it was arranged so to put Ingoldo in the right frame of mind. And it is clear that Ingwë is not feeling particularly charitable towards his brother right now.
and it was good of Eönwë to show himself while he was there on business. I think Ingoldo needed to be told that his oath was known and recorded. So hopefully he will behave himself. For now.

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Yes, Ingwion is definitely a mental basket case and we'll see just how mental he really is in subsequent chapters and what happens between him and Ingoldo when no one is looking. *grin*

And the 'chat' was deliberately set up to show Ingoldo that his brother was very serious about what was happening and will happen. And actually, I think they all needed Eönwë's little lesson. *grin*

Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's very much appreciated.
