Ingwion still needs a lot of healing. He might not be as volatile, but he still has trouble controlling himself. I got the feeling Ingwe still needs to grow up some more. He came across as if he would like Manwe to hand him all answers on a platter, and maybe even take Ingoldo off his hands. So, that he wouldn't have to deal with him. Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Yes, Ingwion still has a lot of healing to do. I don't think Ingwë needs growing up, though. I think his reaction is very understandable, wishing someone else could handle all this. I know I would even as I'm preparing myself to handle it. This is terra incognita for Ingwë and he has never had to deal with a stiuation such as this. But we will see that with Arafinwë and Olwë's support, he will do just fine. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

And more grief comes to them and to the Valar. How we would wish to know things for certain, but that is not given us often, and obviously wasn't given often in those times, either. And Ingwion did require one more reminder to behave, I note. Alas. Author Reply: Very true, Larner. Certainty is not something upon which any of us can rely and that was just as true for the Eldar in Aman as it is true for us today. And as I warned, Ingwion is not recovered yet and it will be some time before he is. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's much appreciated.

Reading your discussion of what the Quenya/Sinderin translation of Halloween would be how about All Feas Eve, since it is the eve of All Souls Day? I will leave it to you to translate 'all' and 'eve', since I know I would make a hash of it! The other phrases have more to do with autumn than Halloween. Just thinking, Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Actually Halloween "All Hallows Eve" is the day before All Saints' Day and that is followed by All Souls' Day (yeah, I know, really confusing). Possibly Halloween could be translated as "Sinyë ilyë i-airitaron" (the evening of all the hallow-ones), and All Saints Day could be "Aurë ilyë i-airitaron" (the day of all the hallow-ones) and All Souls' Day could be "Aurë ilyë fëaron" (the day of all the souls/spirits", but I'm not entirely sure, so don't quote me on it. *grin* But you're right that the other phrases all have to do with Autumn generally rather than with a specific holiday.

Atto, First of all, Happy Halloween! =D How would one say that in Quenya and Sindarin, I wonder? (In Emma's and my stories that we've written for Halloween challenges, the Noldor call it Lasse-lanta, the Sindar call it Narbeleth, and the Silvan call it Laergwanath. What do you think of those?) All right, back to reviewing properly... So, they've finally gotten out their frustrations about the Valar. I have to say, Arafinwe practically telling Olwe to shut up so he could finish his story was rather amusing. *wry grin* I caught the line about Indis going to Lorien soon. Why do I think Arafinwe won't take that very well (and I wonder how Ingwe will take it?) It's about time they dealt with Ingoldo...it's rather disturbing that people have been coerced into thinking Ingwe really did abdicate. I hope everything will be resolved with the Vanyar (and with the Noldor and Lindar) soon enough. Also, I did a double-take at "They have not yet arrived." My brain immediately finished that thought with "...in Mandos" which is certainly true, but of course I wasn't thinking of "...in Beleriand", or rather Valariandë, yet. Interesting...Valariandë. I thought it was Heceldemar, or something like that? I never saw this name for it before (though it certainly scans better to Beleriand than the other one, lol). Is it an attested name or did you just translate it yourself? =) And seriously, why doesn't the First Battle of Beleriand have a proper name? How about Dagor Minui, or something like that? (I'm sure you can translate it better than I can.) I mean, all the others are "Dagor (something)", why not this one? Seriously, Tolkien...=P Anyway, I'll stop rambling, but I did love this chapter, even though I'm sorry for all those poor fëar. Looking forward to Friday (and Wednesday, too! Wednesday happens to be my sister's 23rd birthday, besides Long-Expected Wedding Day, lol. We saw her Saturday though, as she can't skip work for the day) Tye-melin, Kaylee Author Reply: And Happy Halloween to you, meldanya. Heceldamar and Valariandë are both attested. The first could be considered perjorative and disparaging, or will become so once the Elves of Beleriand begin arriving in Aman, either by way of Mandos or by ship. As for your words for Halloween... the Sindarin and Quenya forms are merely the names for late Autumn ("Sun-fading" and "Leaf-falling"). The Silvan form obviousl means "Leaf-dying". As for how "Halloween" or Rather "All Hallow's Eve" might be rendered in any of the Elvish languages, I'm afraid I'm not sure. At any rate, I have no idea why Tolkien didn't give this first battle a name. Dagor Vinui (it's lenited)sounds good to me. *grin* I'm glad yu enjoyed the chapter and we'll be getting into the trial in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reivewing, yeldenya. I appreciate it very much. Tye-melin.

I was astouned to read that there could be someone to demand for the High King to step back in favour of his son because he was not there in their need or that Olwe is to blame for not giving the ships to Feanor. How absurd but that´s live I assume. Liked the talk between Manwe and Ingwion very much. Now on to the trial. I´m eager to know how Ingoldo will be punished. Lai Author Reply: Hi Lai. Well, some people have no real sense of reality and we meet such people all the time in life. I'm glad you liked the talk between Manwë and Ingwion. And yes, the trial comes next. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I very much appreciate it.

Well, I didn't cry in this chapter, which is an improvement from the last one. Manwe seemed so human in the first part of the chapter. Maybe human is not the right word, but I can't find a better one. And then, in the second half, he seemed the typical Valar, so hard to read How the Noldors will not if his love ones died in ME? The Valars will tell them or they will feel it. So hard, the uncertainty, no real closure for them. Author Reply: Hi Fantasia. Manwë is treating Ingwion as a father would a son because that is what he needs, but he treats Ingwë, Olwë and Arafinwë as fellow rulers and acts accordingly. As for your question, I've had Arafinwë comment that when his sons died, a Maia was dispatched to let him know and I'm sure that was true for others as well, so they would know that their loved ones would be returning to them someday. Still, there would probably be much anguish not knowing how the person died (that's not something the Maiar would tell them). No easy answers for anyone no matter how you look at it. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Well Ingwion seems to be doing better, he has accepted the fact that Ingil is dead which has to be a big step in his recovery. I did like the way Eonwe handles him, Maia can be quite scary whrn they want to. Now Olwe and Ingwe know what Arafinwe was doing while he was 'sitting at the feet of Manwe', I can understand his anger but it was good for Arafinwe, he will be a much better king for it. There will always be people who think the worst of you, no matter what the circumstances require you to do, it is a fact of life unfortunately! Now to get on with Ratty and Friends trial, it should proove very interesting. Huggs, Lynda p.s. Thanks for answering a qustion I had about the Five Battles of Beleriand, I could never find the name for the first battle, now I know why, it does not have a name, other than the First Battle.:<) Author Reply: Hi Lynda. As to how much better Ingwion is doing still remains to be seen. *grin* And you're right about Arafinwë. His experience, as humiliating as it was, was a good learning experience for him and it'll help make him the great king that he is. And you're also right about some people refusing to acknowledge the truth when it's staring in their face and thinking the worst of sommeone when all evidence is to the contrary. We see it happening everyday. I'm glad I was able to answer your question about the battles. I have no idea why Tolkien didn't give it a name, but he didn't and that's where the confusion lies for a lot of people, not just you. Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing and I hope you had a great Halloween and your costume was a success.
