Dreamflower, I want to learn this Tangle Dance! (Though I fear I'd be no good at it, what with my right leg/foot being shorter/smaller than the left...I wasn't walking until I was 3, and not without a brace till I was 8 or so, and I still off-balance at times even now...) But dancing with hobbits! Lucky Gandalf, and Galadriel! And Pippin is so very talented! Hehe! Kaylee Author Reply: The Tangle Dance is a staple of SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) events and demonstrations (though the actual name is "Tangle Bransle", pronounced "brawl") and it's not exactly graceful-- more of a game than a dance actually! You'd have no problem with it: the entire dance consists of two short steps to the left followed by two slightly larger steps to the right and don't let go of the people's hands you're holding! The leader of the dance leads the line under people's arms, weaving in and out and making a great tangle out of everyone! It's huge fun, and can be danced by all sorts of people who may never do any other dance! The best ones end up with the dancers so tangled that they can't even move at all by the end!

Certainly none of us can resist the hobbits! They are so charming and adorable, and I love Merry asking Galadriel for a dance - that's our gallant Meriadoc. I can just see them all dancing and and I love that Gandalf is joining in - he must have done a lot of dancing with hobbits. Author Reply: I'm quite sure he did! I figure he was dancing along whenever he visited the Shire!

Aw, I'd like to take part in that dance, too! Author Reply: Well, I've danced that dance (called the Tangle Bransle in our world) but never with hobbits! I think it would be even more fun with hobbits!

Oh, yes--they are indeed charming, aren't they? That's why we love our Hobbits so! A wonderful response to the prompt, I must say, and I wish I could be there dancing with them. Author Reply: Yes they are! Who can resist them? Certainly not US!

Their goodness and innocence is very alluring. A charming chapter and so sweetly presented. We should all have such cheering and open hearts. That is truly the way to live. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Yes it is! And hobbits are a good reminder of that!

Great scene! I'd say it must have been relatively easy to ask the Elves for a dance, but how did Pippin manage to persuade Gandalf? As for the Lady Galadriel: she finally gave in to seduction ;-) Author Reply: Oh, I don't know! I would imagine Gandalf's danced the Tangle Dance with hobbits before! After all, he spent many festive occasions among the Tooks when Gerontius was Thain-- and then all his visits with Bilbo. Remember in movie-verse when he danced with the hobbits? Of course she did! She said herself that innocence and trust were seductive!

What a delightful scene. I love it when the hobbits are observed with fondness, respect, and even admiration for what they are, and what they can teach. Brave, courageous Meriadoc! Author Reply: So do I. I can never get enough stories about the observations of Big Folk regarding the remarkable-ness of hobbits! Isn't he though? I love a gallant Merry!

Utterly delightful! I can see Pippin getting Galadriel to dance. Author Reply: I imagine she will dance with all four of them before the celebration is ended, LOL!
