Sad to face such devastation, but I also feel that survival means a new life in a new place will be forged and new delights will hopefully be found to replace the ones ones. Powerful little bit here! Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Am so glad you enjoyed this one, Antane. But so it has always been in the wake of such destructive wars, and not all take well to having to rebuild from scratch. Thanks so!

Very poignant Larner. It brought a lump to my throat and a prayer for all refugees and then I thought of Japan - gulp! Author Reply: I know. I thought of the bombings of Dresden and Coventry as I was writing this, but the situation in Thailand and Japan and all other countries that have been struck by such disasters in the past few years have been brought to mind as well. Australia, Haiti, Indonesia--so many places where so much has been lost!

Oh, this is so sad and heart-breaking. :( I hope this elf will find his family. :( Author Reply: This follows the Battle of Sudden Flame, in which dragons and Balrogs were used by Morgoth to divide the Elven army facing him and to scorch the earth of the land of Dorthonion, where the battle was fought. As with all devastating battles, there must have followed quite a time of confusion as warriors found themselves searching through the smoking ruins of their lands for their fellows and perhaps for their families as well. And I, too, hope this nameless Man found his family.
