Sundry Scrolls IV  by Raksha The Demon 4 Review(s)

Sorry it's taken me so long to get round to these, they've been bookmarked but then I was busy.

Charming story, and my mind went off on a tangent, because my father collects cats (of glass, porcellain, wood, anything really) and I only dusted them last week and had to defend them against the greedy hands of children. ;-) I have one or two things I wouldn't like to see broken, but ultimately, as you say, they are only reminders of relationships and cannot replace them.

“You are my good boy.”

And he was. No glass trinket was worth her little boy’s tears! It mattered not that she had lost her home and missed her people. To safeguard Aragorn, Gilraen would gladly have borne him to the halls of the Dwarves or the icy fastnesses of the Blue Mountains.

The emotions in this story ring so true. What a difficult time for a grieving young wife.

Author Reply: I think Gilraen managed to get through it all as her boy was growing up and needing her; but she seems to have fared far worse when Aragorn went out on his own. It's so sad that she went back to her people, but still couldn't be happy enough to sustain her own life.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, Shirebound!

Beautiful story, Raksha. I love how you describe the "history" of Arathorn's gift, and Gilraen's love and sacrifice for her son.

Author Reply: Thanks for reading and reviewing, Ellyn. I'm glad you liked this moment in Gilraen's life. Every house and family has some knick-knacks and heirlooms, doesn't it, things that hold a great sentimental value...Poor Gilraen gave up her home and her way of life for her son, and of course would do it again if necessary...

I just loved this. You made me feel so sad for poor Gilraen. She is a wonderful caring mother despite her sorrow. I especially liked the glass cats.

Author Reply: I think Gilraen at least tried to be a good mother, especially in Aragorn's early years. He grows up as a man of strong will and confidence, and I think some of that was due to her influence.
