A very interesting tale covering some of the effects, good and bad, of the being the Bearer of such a fell object - and how neat that some of the effects, like being more open to Gandalf's probing of his thoughts, because of the Ring opening such a portal first, would bring good. This would akin to Sam wearing the Ring and having his hearing sharpened to hear the Orcs fighting in the Tower, the very thing that restores his hope that rescue of his master may be possible. Gotta love all the ways that God can use evil to bring good! Even and especially perhaps that dear Fool of a Took. :) *hugs him* Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Oh, yes--oft the enemy's actions and machinations end up working to his own despite in the end, as the Master noted. And indeed the Ring's ability to sharpen hearing did help both Frodo and Sam. And I'm certain that Pippin loved that hug! Thanks so, Antane.

and the loss of the Ring by Gollum’s violence had been the only catalyst that had been capable of keeping Frodo’s personality intact enough to allow healing afterwards. Wow, you're right! It was not only the only way to destroy the Ring, but also the only way to save Frodo and make healing possible. I hadn't considered that before. Thank you for your birthday mathom! I hope you had a wonderful time :-) Author Reply: And you are very welcome--I'm glad Tallis's suggestion managed to spark me to writing this! I had a wonderful, if tiring, birthday--worked two shifts not quite back-to-back, so was pretty tired once I got home.

Lovely piece. In particular, I really enjoyed how you used a capitalised pronoun when referencing the Ring. I can honestly say that I've never seen it before (or thought to do it myself) but it really has a great impact on the piece, solidifies the Ring's individuality. Yeah, that was just awesome. Gandalf's thoughts here, as well as the gapfilling elements, were wonderful. They were certainly realistic, and brought about things that I hadn't thought of before, and in a charming manner. Overall, this was a wonderful piece. Oh, and happy birthday! Author Reply: I've tended to capitalize "it" when referring to the Ring, except during the earliest chapters in which It is mentioned within "For Eyes to See as Can." Makes it easier to identify when the Ring Itself is acting, for as PJ noted, It is a character in Its own right. And I'm not alone, you'll find. I'd considered writing something along these lines for some time, but hadn't started doing so until Tallis specifically asked for this topic last week. It just seemed thoughts on Frodo's growing sensitivity and capabilities with osanwë was intended to be the topic for this tale. Thank you so, Adonnen, and again, welcome to the community!
