| I love Frodo's fascination with the webs, though he probably would have changed his mind if he could have seen Shelob's! But still love the innocence of the pre-Quest time when beauty could be distinguished and not associated with pain and darkness. Interesting about Sam thinking he should have known that Frodo wasn't dead, but he also has the memory of victims being sucked dry to so he shouldn't blame himself for not knowing. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Shelob appears to have inherited her mother's ability to weave tactile webs of unlight, so I truly doubt he would have appreciated them for their beauty. I'm just glad that Sam was wrong when he believed that Frodo was dead. But considering how motionless his Master was being, I also don't blame him for not remembering that spider often prefer their victims to be living. Thanks so, Antane. | |

| Interesting piece, and different. Spiders! Brrrrr!!! I have a few of them about the house, however. I think they keep the mosquitoes down. ~~~~~{~@ Author Reply: Am glad you allow a few spiders about the place--personally, I prefer spiders to flies--far less likely to get on one's food or to leave eggs in places where one doesn't want them, or so I've found. | |

| Very good so far! First wolves and wargs, now tiny Shire spiders and Shelob! Sam could have known it, but considering the circumstances it is no wonder that he expected the worst. I'm looking forward to reading more! Author Reply: Yes, there are differences between the natural creatures and Melkor and Sauron's constructs. Sam has reason now to better appreciate everything he's ever learned about such creatures. Am so glad his worst fears were not realized, however. | |
