Tolkien's description of the Dead Marshes was one that always made me shudder. So does this. You've done a fantastic job capturing the wraith's essence. Your descriptions are so vivid, I find myself repulsed and haunted, yet unable to look away. It's completely mesmerizing. Fantastic!!! :) ~bryn

Zimraphel! That was utterly enthralling! I have often wondered in my LOTR musings how the lost souls of those in Dead Marshes, especially Elves so used to beauty, existed as they had not traveled to Mandos' Halls. Your ideas explore some of these ideas in a fascinating way. Excellent! I love the implied threat and at the same time the enticing line of the Elf's thoughts. "That is better, mortal, and if you come even closer I will whisper it in your ear. It is this: I do not like mortals. I do not think I like Eldar much either, these days. I envy you. I hate you both, moving about in the free air. Does that surprise you, mortal, that one of the Firstborn has utterly forgotten love but remembers hate?" Wonderful. MM

Wow, very powerful piece on a very unique premise. I like the idea you've had of how the spirit, even a kind one such as the Eldar could be corrupted. Too long in limbo, lost to the healing power of Mandos' halls. You did an excellent job of portaying how the lost souls in the dead marshes might seduce the unwary and why.
